Kyouka and Ren lay tangled together on the rickety old bed in the abandoned shack they'd stumbled upon by the roadside. The metal sheet walls creaked against the howling wind outside, but inside, the air was thick with their shared body heat or what little remained of it.
Both were completely naked, their clothes discarded in a soggy pile on the floor after their narrow escape from the river. Hypothermia nipped at their edges, making their skin prickle with cold, but they clung to each other desperately, arms wrapped tight in a hug that was as much for survival as it was for comfort.
Kyouka's teeth chattered slightly as she buried her face in Ren's chest. "Sorry, Ren... I've become such a liability for you," she muttered, her voice weak and laced with regret. "I never thought I'd be this weak. Me, of all people."
Ren held her closer, one arm around her waist while his other hand absentmindedly scrolled through his dead phone.
