"Go clear out your desk Eli. You are fired!"
The voice of an overweight middle aged man thundered inside the office. He wore a black suit that stretched dangerously in an effort to accommodate the man's chubbiness.
Standing to the right of the chubby man , was a middle aged lady in heavy makeup. She wore a black office skirt, and white top that was buttoned only until the chest area, showing her exposed cleavage which was bolstered up by her bra and tight shirt.
She had a wicked grin on her face as she observed the spectacle currently unfolding.
"But.....But why boss ?"
"I always work hard. And you know how badly I need this job!"
"Please, I beg you. Don't do this! "
The frantic stammering voice of a young man with black hair, blue eyes, and very handsome features sounded in confusion in front of the chubby man's desk.
The young man stood at five foot six, and he also wore a black suit with a tie. But this black suit was almost brown from overuse, with areas torn and sewn back together all over.
Eli was perspiring heavily. He was called in by his boss who was the manager of this branch newspaper company; he was currently working part time as a clerical staff.
He thought he was maybe getting a promotion, since he believed he was the hardest working staffer in this company. Only for him to receive such sudden news that he was fired. He couldn't believe his ears and he felt the floor was giving out under him.
"Work hard ?. Hmph" The chubby man sneered.
"Instead of working, you have been going around and sexually harassing our female staff."
"You are lucky you are only getting fired." He added with disdain.
"What ?!" Eli felt as if a bomb had gone off in his ear. His face lost all color and he stood there wide-eyed.
Seeing his surprised reaction. The chubby man added. "So you want to deny it ?. Didn't you sexually harass the beautiful Miss Karen over here ?" He spoke gesturing to his right at the woman with heavy makeup.
"Me ?.....But she was the one who was harrasing..."
Pah!.
Before Eli could finish his words. He felt a hot slap across his face, as he fell to the floor. He looked up with his hands on his cheek, to see Karen with her high heel standing over him with a stern look, and the palm she slapped him with slowly coming down.
"How dare you!" She barked at Eli on the floor.
"Manager Dave. Let's just throw this gutter trash out. Before he ruins the office environment even more." She added spitefully.
"You are absolutely right, Miss Karen. Such a waste of a person does not belong in our company" manager Dave quickly responded as he picked up his phone to his ears.
"Yes. Security, come to my office immediately and remove an eye sore from here.!" Manager Dave voiced loudly into the phone.
As Eli sat there on the floor, looking like someone who was having the worst nightmare of his life. Karen walked over to him, bent over to his ear and whispered with a smirk on her face.
"You will die a virgin and a pauper!"
Then she backed up and walked over slowly swaying her waist in the direction of the manager.
At that moment, two security guards came inside the office, no one had told them who they should kick out, but they immediately went for Eli.
Eli was dragged out through the office as the employees and even interns who had been eavesdropping on the drama inside began gossiping amongst themselves.
"Ay. They fired him ?. But he was already so poor. What will he do now ? " Voiced a female employer in pity.
"Serves him right. He messed with madam Karan." Added one of the male interns.
"Yes. He should have just been obedient like the rest of us! "added another male intern. Though after he said that. The others instantly looked somber.
Inside the managers office. After Eli was dragged out, the chubby man spoke nervously.
"Ehm. Miss Karen. About that date I invited you...."
He didn't even get to finish speaking when Karen cut him off.
"Be patient manager " she said sensually, her voice sultry, as she dragged one of her manicured fingers through his chest, down his fat belly before stopping at his belt and retrieving her finger.
"All in due time." She added as she started moving out of the office, swaying her waist from side to side. But on her face, an instant frown and a look of disgust formed.
Manager Dave who was still euphoric about Karen's seduction did not notice this, and was just observing her swaying waist as she walked out.

Eli was tossed out like a rag onto the streets by the two guards. He was lost for words at what had transpired just a few minutes ago.
He needed this job like his life depended on it. His family which consists of his father, mother and little sister was poor.
And even his father had stopped supporting him financially when he found out that instead of applying to study engineering In school. He had chosen to study English literature because he was passionate about becoming an author.
So he started working part-time at this company to make ends meet, In order to take care of himself and his girlfriend whom he shares a strong bond with.
But the HR manager, Karen , had been instructing him to come to her house and help her clean. Which as he had come to understand was her way of eating young men. So he refused to go because he was loyal to his girlfriend.
He never thought it would go this far and she will even accuse him of sexual harassment and remove the little food he had in his mouth.
Just as Eli sat there thinking about his unfortunate life, his phone rang and the caller id showed "my one and only".
As he picked up the call, he already felt the previous pain he was feeling lessening, seeing he was talking to his girlfriend now.
"Hello. Eli ?" A sharp female voice came from the phone.
"Yes baby. I wanted to even call you. Something just happened and I ...."
"Eli, let's break up."
"What did you just say ?! " Eli would have vomited blood at this point if he were in one of those cultivation movies.
His chest was beating fast, and he nervously spoke again. " Stop joking like that Emily. I know you love me."
"That love is dead. Killed by your poverty.
Eli. You are so poor, it's even embarrassing to talk about you to my friends !
Will I eat love ?
Anyway ...I've found somebody else who is capable and can take care of me.
Don't ever call me again in your life. And if you see me on campus, avoid me. I don't want your stinking poverty to infect me" Emily blurted out rapidly, sounding more irritated as she spoke.
"My god. I can't even believe I stayed with such a loser for so long. You can't even buy me a bottle of coke!"
"Goodbye forever, you pauper!" she finally added and then cut the call.
As the barrage of insults ended. Eli just sat there on the pavement of the road as rain started pouring heavily, drenching him from head to toe and adding to the misfortune that has now become his life.
Emily was Eli's girlfriend of two years. Though they haven't done anything intimate, he actually loved her and they have even promised to get married after college.
Now he had lost his job, his girlfriend, his family was poor and he might even have to drop out from school soon since he hasn't paid for the last four semesters.
"Why me ?" Was all Eli uttered after a few moments of silence. And in that silence, something changed as a blue interface appeared in his vision with a clear message, startling him into sitting upright.
