"For you? It depends on whether your copy is a complete one or a incomplete one. The price commanded is very different between the two as you should understand. If it is complete it would naturally demand a high price. I, as a respectable businessman, try my best to deal fairly." I say casually.
"And how would we even go about testing such a thing?" he asked worriedly.
"Simple." I said before my hand shot out and latched onto his wrist.
Before he could even react I already checked over his possessions and released him.
"Luck is not on your side it seems. Your copy is incomplete as I thought. The basic functionality is intact but the level of power it can achieve is permanently capped rather low. No wonder you got one shotted by a single maidens power in the original timeline." I said with a sigh.
Really the magic system in this world was almost as versatile as the one from my own but with considerably more utility as it didn't require the same crutches to use. No wand or verbal components needed. The biggest downside was that it wasn't a stable power system.-
It existed in a sort of explosive spell state. It was all about burst type spells and things like transfiguration, potioneering and alchemy were not really a thing, at least not like my worlds version anyways. Despite that however I still wanted it as it was by far the closest to my own original magic system as i've seen. For his incomplete version I might offer a full one piece set including a devil fruit but that was it. That power limit was just that bad. The ironic part is he sort of shot himself in the foot by fragmenting it like he has.-
This type of magic scales in power with the strength of the soul. Due to the nature of his reincarnations where his original soul merges with and slowly subsumes the soul of the body he was in his soul got stronger each time he died, though only slightly. By this point his soul was frankly massive. Perhaps the only soul on the planet that might match it in quality is that of Salems and only because she's been around for an estimated several MILLION years. In the source material it was pretty heavily implied that after the brother gods wiped out humanity leaving only Salem she had to wait for a new group of them to evolve, and evolution? Not a fast process.-
Frankly the fact she didn't go absolutely insane in that time was her most impressive feat. Or perhaps she is the type of person that barely even noticed the passing of time and lived one day at a time. Either way she was RIDICULOUSLY old and her soul slowly grew to match that age. Perhaps that was the point of making Ozpin's immortality the way it is. The brother gods realized that he wouldn't be able to fight Salem at her current power unless he somehow grew to match it in a short time frame.-
And then he fucked up by breaking the source of his own power.
"I'm sorry, what?" he asked with a grave expression.
"First your copy is incomplete. Not a shocker that. Second, your ex is a VERY vindictive woman. Then again you DID kill your own children and betray her for the gods who damned her to begin with because of you so really you earned that." I said casually.
"It wasn't like that! I-I didn't mean to." he stammered as his voice quivered.
"Maybe. But you still did it. You alone are the reason your children died and why Salem is a problem. She couldn't care less about the rest of humanity. All she cares about is making you suffer the way she suffered, everything else is a means to that end." I said flatly.
"I, yes. I can't deny that. I am the one that turned her into the monster she is now." he said with a sigh.
"If it's of any consolation she was once perhaps the most devoted wife in the history of the world. She stood against the gods in order to try and get you back. That's a kind of love I can't think of anyone else possessing." I said with a sigh of my own.
As I had said Salem was once the single most devoted of wives with a love so deep she defied the gods and death itself in order to get this man back after illness claimed him. But the man himself was foolish, despite knowing this he couldn't spurn the gods that gave him a mission to bring them back to the world. In the end it resulted in a violent fight between him and Salem where he killed their children and she in turn him for the first time.-
Almost all of the terrible things she did following that incident was aimed entirely at making him suffer as she had. She made it her mission to tear apart all of his works, all of his hopes and everything that even remotely had anything to do with him. Unfortunately for everyone else that kind of meant humanity as a whole.
