"Pretty flashy, too."
Underneath the Iron Man armor, Tony, after a brief moment of surprise, gave this dismissive assessment.
Big Tony didn't believe it—there was no way Loki could actually "create" so many Lokis.
Most of those extra Lokis were probably fake, right?
Just an illusion!
"Hahaha!"
The overlapping, eerie laughter continued to echo in his ears.
The group of Lokis finally moved in unison, attacking Tony and Captain America.
Captain America immediately saw a Loki swinging a scepter toward him.
Instinctively, he raised his shield to block and counter.
But the moment the shield collided with the scepter, Cap realized something was wrong.
He felt no force at all.
Fake!
The scepter was fake!
"Not good!"
A bad feeling flashed through Cap's mind—he knew he'd been tricked.
Bang!
At that exact moment, the real Loki's scepter struck from a different direction.
It hit Captain America directly, knocking him to the ground.
And Tony?
"J.A.R.V.I.S., scan for heat signatures!"
Inside the Iron Man suit, Tony calmly issued the command.
J.A.R.V.I.S. immediately executed Tony's orders.
The display in front of Tony switched to the corresponding heat-scan view.
The scene transformed entirely.
All the extra Lokis had vanished, leaving only the real Loki.
"Knew it!"
A self-satisfied smirk tugged at Tony's lips.
No matter how aggressively Loki lunged, Tony stood firm, calmly targeting the real Loki with his attack.
"Shh… bang!"
When Loki's scepter struck him, Tony fired a repulsor blast directly at him.
The next moment, the scepter passed right through Tony.
The real Loki grunted and was sent crashing to the ground by Tony's blast.
Swish swish swish.
As Loki fell, the fake Lokis vanished.
Only Loki remained on the battlefield.
"You… you can see through a god's magic?"
Loki's face betrayed genuine astonishment; he looked at Tony with newfound respect.
Last time, when the playboy fought the Destroyer in his suit, it had been unexpected, but his performance wasn't nearly as impressive as Captain America's.
After all, Cap had Thor's powers then!
Compared to Tony, Loki had paid more attention to Captain America.
But this time, Cap didn't have Mjolnir!
So Loki thought the situation was still under his control.
Yet now, it seemed he had underestimated this tin man!
"Honestly, I didn't expect a god's magic to be so clumsy."
Tony, mercilessly taunting Loki, charged forward.
Captain America did the same.
The battle among the three erupted again.
Tony and Cap worked together to firmly suppress Loki.
The battlefield looked entirely favorable.
"Sir, there's bad news."
But at that moment, J.A.R.V.I.S. suddenly alerted, "The spatial portal is about to explode. The entire base will be leveled! Everyone needs to evacuate immediately."
Loki's first remotely activated portal was highly unstable, reducing the Dark Energy Combined Base to ruins.
This also explained why in the movie Loki had to go to Stuttgart to steal iridium—to stabilize the portal.
Although J.A.R.V.I.S. addressed Tony as "Sir," his voice was broadcast for everyone to hear.
Nick Fury, Captain America, and the other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents' expressions all changed.
"Stark, hold Loki temporarily."
"Cap, take the Tesseract!"
"Everyone, evacuate!"
Fury wasted no words, issuing orders to everyone on site.
"You can handle it, Stark?"
During the battle, Cap's shield blocked a strike from Loki as he casually asked Tony.
"I was the one who knocked Loki down, remember?"
Tony replied in his usual arrogant tone, "Take the Tesseract and go first."
Cap nodded and stopped fussing with Tony.
After exchanging a quick signal, he made a beeline for the Tesseract.
"You'll not take my Tesseract!"
Loki roared, raising his scepter to strike Cap.
Bang!
But his distraction allowed Tony to blast him to the ground with a repulsor.
"Oh? Where are you going?"
"You haven't shown me a god's true power yet!"
Tony jabbed verbally as he charged Loki.
"Get lost!"
"You annoying little fly!"
Loki, genuinely enraged, unleashed his full power against Tony.
But unfortunately for him, while strong, Loki couldn't easily overcome Tony's suit.
Breaking Tony's defenses in a short time was quite difficult.
Clang clang! Bang bang bang!
In their fierce combat, Tony struck Loki multiple times, and Loki returned the blows.
"Sir, time's up."
Soon, J.A.R.V.I.S. reported. Tony immediately perked up.
"Loki, it's been a pleasure fighting you. I'll remember this. But today, it ends here!"
Whoosh!
Tony didn't hesitate. He flew out in his Iron Man armor, leaving only those words behind.
Whoosh whoosh!
He fired two missiles from his shoulders, blasting a huge hole in the wall ahead, then vanished from sight.
Loki looked up at the portal above and saw the energy reaching its peak.
Boom!
At that moment, the terrifying energy exploded, sending tidal waves of shockwaves outward, crushing everything in its path.
Rumble!
In an instant, the entire Dark Energy Combined Base began collapsing.
In just a blink, the sprawling base was reduced to rubble.
Billowing dust and smoke shrouded the ruins, hiding them from view.
Whoosh!
A flash of light appeared in the smoke—Tony, in his red armor, emerged.
Without a doubt, it was the Destroyer, Tony Stark.
Hovering briefly, he surveyed the devastation below.
"J.A.R.V.I.S., do you think Loki's buried under there?"
"Insufficient data to determine, sir. Even if he is, he should be fine."
"Good. Otherwise, I wouldn't know how to face Thor later."
Tony shrugged and then swiftly flew off to reunite with Nick Fury and Captain America.
About forty minutes later, after issuing emergency orders and cleaning up a mess, Fury brought Tony and Cap to a nearby secret S.H.I.E.L.D. base.
By then, Red Guardian, Hawkeye Barton, and Black Widow were already waiting, following earlier orders.
Though they didn't know the details, given the recent "quake" and Fury's expression, it was clear something significant had happened.
"Nick, can you tell me what happened?"
Finally, Cap asked.
"Of course. That's why I called everyone together."
Fury summarized Loki's remote Tesseract activation and his attempt to steal it.
The Avengers' reactions varied.
Red Guardian and Hawkeye, unfamiliar with the intel, were surprised, worried, and angry.
Black Widow, also a diary holder, was additionally shocked.
Thor had the diary, yet he still couldn't prevent the battle? What was he doing?!
Cap, who had questioned Fury before, now understood he had been wrong.
Though the Tesseract was always kept at S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury hadn't studied it like Red Skull. Its sudden activation was unrelated to him.
Cap set aside his doubts and focused on the problem at hand.
Based on Tony's account, Loki might be buried under the rubble.
After all, five seconds is too short to escape unless someone can fly like Tony.
But Loki is a god!
Whether he's buried or not, no one could be certain.
Even if buried, he might be fine—or he might be dead from the explosions.
So the next steps were clear:
Find Loki—alive or dead.
Ensure the Tesseract's safety.
With a plan in place, Fury dispatched teams to search the ruins for Loki.
Naturally, the Tesseract was moved to a new base.
The original Avengers stayed on site, and Fury's covert team secured the perimeter.
In short, the new base was virtually impenetrable.
From Loki's fight with Tony and Cap, it was clear he couldn't easily cause trouble.
The only frustrating part: Loki had vanished.
As expected of a god from Asgard, he wasn't easy to defeat.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had combed the ruins, but there was no sign of him.
After learning of Loki's escape, both Fury and Tony deployed all resources to find him—but to no avail.
