Chapter 260 - Chapter 260: Farewell to New York

Chapter 260: Farewell to New York

Tony, like a reluctant dance partner, swayed back and forth in the biker gang leader's arms to the music. Occasionally, when his face was turned to Ron, a look of despair filled his expression.

"Save me, partner~"

The upbeat music filled the bar as Tony found himself in this extremely awkward situation.

Ron had already pulled out his phone and activated the recording mode. This would become another masterpiece in his collection, following the video of Sheldon's embarrassing moments. Meanwhile, he didn't forget to give Tony an encouraging look.

"Come on, partner, you can do it."

The cheerful music quickly ended, and just when Tony thought his nightmare was finally over, the biker gang leader insisted on taking a commemorative photo together in the bar's photo booth...

At night, Ron, Tony and the other two finally emerged from the bar.

"Don't tell anyone about what happened in the bar!" After the friendly gathering, Tony and the other two received some spare clothes from the bikers, finally freeing themselves from their embarrassing situation.

"Hahaha, don't worry, I won't tell anyone, I'll just keep the evidence forever," Ron said with a rather mischievous laugh, and Tommy and Steve joined in the laughter.

"You dare to laugh!" Tony, furious at the sight of Steve, said, "If I hadn't tried to save you, would I have ended up like this?"

As he spoke, he began to playfully chase Steve. However, Ron wasn't in the mood to continue watching the antics, as he had just received a message.

"Stop," Ron said, holding Tony and Steve's heads. "I have something to tell you. I need to go back to Los Angeles."

Tony turned around and said, "Wait, partner, aren't you joining us on this investigation? Why are you so eager to leave?"

"It can't be helped. You're wanted suspects now. As a federal agent, I can't continue to walk with you. It wouldn't look good." Ron showed the three the message on his phone.

This situation meant nothing to Ron. If he wanted, he could have cleared the wanted notice in a heartbeat. He was simply tired of New York and didn't want to sleep rough with Tony and the others.

As for why he didn't lend a hand, it was purely out of brotherly mischief. He'd never miss the chance to mess with his partner, and knowing how things would play out, he knew they'd escape unscathed.

Another crucial factor was that Morrison Sr. had already made a will, leaving all his assets to various charities. So there was no need to visit the dying old man again.

Charitable organizations have always held a significant position in the United States, enjoying tax exemptions and public support. This meant they were prime targets for politicians to court during elections.

Even the powerful figures behind Ron, if they still wanted to stay in politics, had to be respectful to these large charitable foundations. Ron simply didn't want to risk that relationship.

"Damn! Are we wanted criminals for everything?!" Tony exclaimed in disbelief.

"We escaped with the suspect, so it's only natural we're considered accomplices, right?"

Tommy reasoned rationally, and Ron nodded approvingly. Of this trio, only one was reliable. The other two were: one the comedian, the other a well-meaning troublemaker.

It was a miracle that such an odd combination managed to solve cases.

"Right, so if you want to continue investigating, you'll be on your own from now on," Ron said with a sly grin, patting the stunned Tony on the shoulder.

"Hell, you ungrateful guy! You're actually planning to abandon your partner and run away?"

"Your partner has responsibilities. Tommy is your friend. Ask him if he'd abandon you if he had the chance?"

"We're partners, we're partners." Tommy nodded and agreed.

"So what should we do now? We're wanted, we can't even stay in a hotel, and we're dressed like this. Partner, you have to help me. You're so well-connected, do you have any place in New York for us to stay?"

Tony pleaded, holding Ron's hand.

Ron quickly pulled his hand away from Tony's grip: "There's no safe house, but I can think of a way for you to survive."

Ron bent down and picked up a newspaper from the ground: "Here, if you sleep on the street, you can cover yourself with this. It's not much, but it's definitely better than nothing."

"Partner, I used to be your training buddy..."

"Huh?" Ron glared at him, and Tony immediately stopped rambling: "Since I've been your partner and helped you with cases, can you at least help us with better clothes~"

"Clothes?" Ron held up his chin and looked at the three people in mismatched outfits. To be honest, the clothes lent to them by the motorcycle gang were decent quality. Even the leather jacket that the boss specially gave Tony was genuine leather.

But for some reason, no matter how you looked at it, their personalities didn't match the style. The tough motorcycle jackets worn by the three made them look like lost tourists.

Just as the four of them reached a shop window, Tony suddenly stopped, blocking Ron's path, his eyes flickering back and forth between the clothes on display and Ron.

He was hinting wildly.

"Those clothes are nice, I'll help you out one more time," Ron said, raising the collar of his windbreaker and zipping it all the way up. The large, stand-up collar instantly covered most of his face.

Tony had a vague sense of foreboding: "Partner, what are you going to do?"

Ron had already bent down, pried open the manhole cover with a tool, and grasped one end with both hands, swinging it with all his might. After spinning three times in place, he finally gathered enough momentum and let go.

The cover flew out of his hand, shattering the window with a crash.

"Woooooooo~" the alarm began to sound, but Ron had already grabbed clothes from the three mannequins and threw them into Tony's hands: "What are you still standing there for? Run!"

"Huh?" Tony was stunned at first, then turned around and ran with panicked steps: "Thank you, partner, goodbye partner~"

Tommy and Steve were stunned for a moment before hurriedly chasing after him: "Wait for me!"

Ron shook his head, leaned against the wall, filled out a check for twice the value of the damaged property, threw it through the broken window, and then walked away. He walked two blocks and took a taxi to the airport.

He had booked a flight for the evening when he was at the bar, and now it was time to go back and return to his normal life.
