The next morning, after a morning meal, I take a look at the job board.
"D-rank, 1 or more adventurers, Holy skill required." This sounds familiar. "Forest cave is spewing undead. Exterminate as many as possible. Reward per undead monster core." Is this request by the same person?
I took the job and traveled to the forest cave. While the directions are impeccable, it's apparently very easy to lose your sense of direction in a forest. After wandering for a time, I hear some uncanny sounds.
I stealthily approach the sounds, staying covered by foliage. I peek a cliff through the leaves, with a cave opening. The sounds suddenly stop. I feel I'm being watched.
I approach the cave. There are no monsters in sight. A chill passes through me, and I see something hazy at the edge of my vision.
I turn to face it. A semi-transparent bedsheet seems to be hanging in the air. Once I lay my gaze upon it, it changes shape. A twisted face returns my gaze, and a claw extends toward me.
I block the claw with my arm. My arm is taken with a strange sensation, then the point of a claw emerges from my arm, reaching for my eyes. I dive away from the creature and roll to my feet, then activate turn undead.
The creature drifts for a moment, then fades from sight. A monster core falls to the patch of dirt beneath it.
