Eva stopped for a moment before bursting into laughter. She laughed so hard, she became weak in the knees and fell to the floor, still laughing. "o my god, If you're going to mess with me, at least make it realistic."
Zeiran gave her a blank stare; he was dead serious again. "As much as I'd love to mess with you and the lives of mortals; a little misfortune here and there, I'd rather not at a time like this. The rate at which you've grown into the simple and ignorant mental mind of mortals. Pitiful, if I may say. You've seen the signs, have you not!?"
There was silence for a while "I've spoken to you many times over in your mental realm and even physically. Is that something mortals can do?
Eva recalled this morning when Jayne saw her hair and eyes. She wanted to tell her everything but she was stopped by a voice in her head; Zeiran's voice. He stared at her as she put the pieces together.
"Was he speaking to her?" she thought to herself
"Yes I am. Do not utter a single sound as to what is really going on. Your destiny has no business with her. Besides, the less people you trust, the better for you; your life hasn't exactly been a jolly one."
Eva looked at Zeiran "How on earth did you do that?"
"Even if I told you, your feeble mind wouldn't comprehend it to the slightest. For now, you'll just have to lie. I it could prove disastrous for both of you if you were to bring a mortal into the matters of the Shadow realm. The only reason I'm allowed to interfere in mortal affairs is because I'm tasked to watch over you. There's a veil that separates the mortal and the spirit realm and it mustn't be broken.
Eva was still surprised, confused and curious, she just decided to listen to him and pretend it was a joke.
The memories of the fight with Lizzy welled up within her mind and it only made her wonder, Could she really be a demon?
Zeiran stared at her "I believe you're realizing the truth?"
Eva stared at him for a while
"H-how am I a demon? W-what are you? And why do you call yourself my guardian?, what is wrong with me?, and" she sat down, feeling stressed "Just… just explain everything"
"you are a demon of royal heritage; Descendant of the great goddess of chaos and misfortune and next in line for the role of godhood. which makes your mom the queen of disaster. I, Zeiran, have been chosen to protect you on your journey to unravel your destiny and function as one of the very elements that balance the very scales of reality. Being young, your powers were sealed off as you were born a mortal even though by the blessing of the goddess, you were a demon. Your demon side along side your chaos side ravaged within you; as to explain the series of misfortunes that occurred in your life every now and then, waiting for a sign of weakness; like when you lost control and almost killed your sister"
Eva listened to him, word for word, trying to understand what he was saying. Her head was spinning and she was about to cry at this point.
"Now you're of age, you demonic powers are awakening and your inner demon will begin to merge with you, transforming you to your true ascended form." He explained
Zeiran stopped, staring at Eva with a blank face. She looked like she was about to have mental breakdown. She clutched her head; her mind was racing and it felt like she was about to die. Tears streamed down her face and suddenly the room fell silent. She was in Zeiran's arms. He pulled her up, hugging her tight has he caressed her hair.
Her heart rate slowed and then sped up again, but this time, it felt… soothing. She looked down and blushed a bit, her face flushed with a mix of emotions.
"Forgive my honestly and insensitivity. I didn't say I didn't expect this but I thought you would've been prepared at the least. After all, your mother is the current goddess." Eva's eyes widened slightly and she felt a lump in her throat. She was about to cry again when Zeiran grabbed her tighter and whispered "You don't have to think about it, just get some rest, trust me you have all the time in the world. Take it slow."
Eva curled up into a ball, enjoying the warmth of Zeiran's body against hers. Slowly, he unwrapped his arms and Eva grabbed him again "Don't…don't go." "Huh?".
Eva looked away trying to sound desperate "Stay here…" Zeiran's face looked like his usual self again; blank… unfeeling. His voice was deep and that made his sound all the more cold.
"My apologies, it seems my lack of mastery in human emotions has caused me to send the wrong message. Just because I calmed you down doesn't mean I like you. I was only trying to prevent you from breaking down and losing yourself. If you did, your demon side would've consumed your very soul." he knelt one leg on the bed and cupped her face hard, smiling maniacally.
"I despise humans. It's a nightmare just being here with you. And trust me, I will be the one to destroy you before anyone else can. Do you understand? Even I am not your ally." He then threw her face away and disappeared.
Eva just stared into blank space. She couldn't hold it back anymore, she cried silently; everything hurt.
There was a knock on her door, Eva wiped her face clean, the day was not yet over, she prayed secretly that there was no drama at the other side of the door before she opened it.
Her mom entered her room, took one look at her and realized she had been crying, she didn't point it out and just told her to follow her
Eva refused "I… don't eat to go anywhere right now"
"you have been in this room for almost a week and if your opinion mattered, I would have asked" Rose said has she walked out of the room expecting Eva to follow suit behind her
Eva sighed and stood up, and followed her mother. She didn't have the strength to argue anymore.
She went out side and entered her car and Eva sat behind. "No, no; come up front."
Eva looked at the rear view mirror, searching her mother's eyes to make sure she was kidding, she sighed and came down and went to the front like she asked.
She started the car and their journey began, there wasn't a word uttered in the car, the windows were down so Eva just enjoyed the wind hitting her face until they reached their destination.
It was a cliff. "Does woman want to end her life? Or mine? Oh well, dying is not looking like a bad thing now.
"I am not going to kill you, just get out of the car" Rose clarified after seeing her hesitation to get down.
Eva came down from the car and watched as her mother gazed at the sky, breathing in deeply and relaxing into the wind.
"I didn't bring you here to stare at me"
Eva looked at the sky. it was a dark night with the sky sparkling with the stars. The whole place was beautiful, glowing with the bright, yet subtle light of the moon. Eva looked around to see if there was anything else her mother wanted her to see.
"when I was younger, my mom took me here, I was having a tough time growing up and it was a bit much to handle. I cried a lot, my parents divorced and so many other things my mother brought me here and told me at make a wish on a shooting star. I thought it was ridiculous; it doesn't miraculously make things better. It didn't give me the perfect life I wanted but It was nice to have a. Little beacon of hope in your life to look meat every once in a while."
Eva listened to her then turn back to the sky and she saw it, it was a shooting star. Was it just a coincidence? She closed her eyes, not sure why exactly she felt hope, and she closed her eyes, making her wish.
Before opening her eyes, it seemed like the star waited for her to make her wish before leaving again. A smile crept up Eva's face they stared at the sky for a while before the both got into the car and driving back home.
"Thanks" Eva said without looking at her, still trying to hide her smile
"Consider it a birthday gift. Oh, your teacher called, do you know your exams are next week?" Rose said with a knowing smile; Eva definitely wasn't prepared.
"WHAT!"
