"Where am I?" Bailey felt her body drifting through a colourless void.
For a moment, she wasn't sure if she was dead or alive.
Her body felt heavy, bruised, and burning all at once, as if someone had poured fire into her veins.
Then, a piercing scent of antiseptic and the faint beeping of a machine caused her to stir.
Her eyes slowly opened and she almost let out a yelp at the blurry sight of a shadow leaning over her.
Her heart jerked in terror, her mind instantly dragging her back to Kai's whip, his voice and his vicious fury.
"Easy… Miss Angelo," A deep, calm voice murmured.
Bailey blinked several times as her vision slowly sharpened enough to make out the man's face.
He was a mature man, probably in his mid-forties, with a pair of gentle eyes behind rectangular glasses. He wore blue scrubs with a hospital ID clipped to the chest.
