The crowd around them whispered excitedly as they held up their phones to take pictures.
Even if they couldn't sell it as news, at least they could post it on social media and show off.
Queen Maeve and The Deep rushed out as well.
The Deep looked around, pointed at Steppenwolf, and shouted loudly,"You ugly alien! Surrender now! I am the Deep—Earth's Aquaman!"
Steppenwolf pointed contemptuously."Kill that fly."
One Parademon swooped down, slapped the Deep twice, grabbed him, and lifted him off the ground.
The Deep flailed and punched, but couldn't hurt it at all. He screamed in terror,"Homelander, help!"
The spectators booed."So weak!""What a disgrace to Earth!"
Starlight rushed out of the lobby. She fired a burst of light at the Parademon, blasting it away and saving the Deep, who rolled across the ground in utter humiliation.
Black Widow shook her head."He's completely socially dead now. Useless. Even a rookie outshines him."
The crowd erupted in applause for Starlight.
Homelander fired his heat vision. The Parademons in midair were struck and fell to the ground.
The crowd cheered wildly."Homelander is amazing!""Earth's strongest hero!"
Homelander straightened proudly but kept a serious expression. He pointed at Steppenwolf."Alien, as long as I'm here, you won't do anything evil on Earth!"
Crack!
Steppenwolf suddenly leapt forward and slashed down with his axe.
Boom!
Homelander was still smiling when he was sent flying straight into Vought Tower, crashing through the wall.
The crowd backed away in shock.
"So much for his act!""I thought he was invincible!""Still smiling after getting smashed!"
Homelander burst out of the rubble and fired heat vision at Steppenwolf.
Steppenwolf blocked it with his arm."Your beams are weak. They're useless!"
He crouched, jumped again, and kicked Homelander flying.
Homelander rushed back and landed a punch on Steppenwolf's face, barely saving a bit of dignity.
But before he could escape, several Parademons grabbed him and dragged him along the ground.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Steppenwolf stomped him mercilessly.
The crowd retreated even farther.
Queen Maeve rushed in and was punched away in a single blow.
The Flash muttered,"These bugs are disgusting… I'm really scared of bugs, Master."
Black Widow smirked."Little handsome guy, you're a man. How can you be afraid of bugs?"
Flash straightened up instantly."You're right, Sister-in-law! I'm not afraid!"
Lin Chen shook his head.Black Widow really knew how to boost morale.
Homelander got back up and kept fighting, but he was still completely crushed by Steppenwolf.
The whole battle was being broadcast live, and Homelander's reputation was dropping fast.
Starlight shot down several Parademons, finally angering Steppenwolf.
"Human woman, you dare defy the great Steppenwolf? Die!"
He slowly walked toward her, radiating overwhelming pressure.
Starlight fired again, but her light barely scratched his armor.
Lin Chen stood up.
"If Starlight dies here, that would make me an indirect killer. I won't allow it."
Homelander lay in the rubble, unable to move. The crowd could only shout in panic.
"Starlight, run!""Get away!"
Skye, hiding nearby, hesitated—she wanted to help but wasn't sure she could stop Steppenwolf.
Bang!
Lin Chen smashed through the café on the second floor and leapt down.
"Steppenwolf, let that girl go! Fight me instead!"
Steppenwolf turned, startled.
"It's you… the fortune-teller!"
Lin Chen had already drawn the Celestial Master Sword.
"Five Thunders!"
BOOM!
Purple lightning slammed into Steppenwolf.
He roared in agony.
Lin Chen pulled out an entire stack of talismans.
Steppenwolf's face changed.If all of these were activated, he'd be torn apart!
Still suffering from previous injuries, he grabbed the Mother Box and teleported away.
"This time he clutched it tightly, afraid Lin Chen would snatch it again.
"Fortune-teller, Dar——Darkseid will not let you go!"
Whoosh!
Steppenwolf vanished.
The Flash cheered."Master, that was incredible!"
Black Widow pouted."Damn it… he's showing off again."
The crowd fell silent—then exploded with cheers.
"Aliens are trash!""Daoist Lin is awesome!""So much better than fake Superman!""Even aliens run when they see him!"
Lin Chen walked over and helped Starlight up.
"Are you okay?"
Starlight clung to him with trembling legs."Master… I was so scared…"
Lin Chen gently patted her arm."It's fine. He's gone."
Her eyes sparkled."You're amazing. The aliens were terrified of you. You saved me—you're my hero."

Lin Chen nodded."Tell him to analyze it."
Black Widow frowned."Fury wants it too."
Lin Chen shook his head."S.H.I.E.L.D. has too many Hydra agents. If they get it, they'll make even more lab-made monsters."
Black Widow froze."So many Hydra agents?"
"More than you can imagine."
Flash left.
Lin Chen leaned back in the passenger seat."Alright, let's go. I'm ready to be interrogated all night—but I won't confess."
Black Widow sneered."You have no idea what my interrogation methods are."
"You'll just pretend to be weak and flip the tables. Don't think I don't know."
"Bastard… you really have studied me."
"Of course. Changing tactics requires preparation."
