Chapter 186: Charizard's Breakthrough
Charizard roared, its claws glowing with energy. With a flap of its wings, it lunged directly at Black Kyurem. Black Kyurem spotted the small creature charging at it and slashed with a single blow, sending Charizard flying.
Charizard flew backward, slamming heavily into the rock wall. The excruciating pain made it roar, but more than anything, it was filled with frustration at its own lack of strength. Charizard used its legs to push off against the rock wall, flapped its wings, and engulfed in blazing flames, slammed fiercely into Black Kyurem's back with Flare Blitz.
This attack had concentrated all its power, the burning force attaching the flames to Black Kyurem's back, severely injuring it. Black Kyurem roared, gathering a Freeze Shock in its claws.
"Lucario, Aura Sphere!" a voice called out.
An Aura Sphere slammed directly into Black Kyurem's face, exploding on impact. Black Kyurem staggered, and the Freeze Shock passed just above Charizard's head, missing it.
Ryan turned to see Frost, a member of his elite squad. "Didn't I tell you to leave? What are you doing here?" he shouted.
"You're our boss. If you die, who's going to pay us?! Mega Alakazam, use Psychic! Lucario, use continuous Aura Spheres!" Frost opened his narrowed eyes and spoke coldly.
Mega Alakazam pointed all its spoons at Black Kyurem, sending a powerful Psychic wave hurtling towards it. Lucario also instantly fired a barrage of Aura Spheres at it.
Black Kyurem waved its claw in frustration, blocking the attacks. Lightning flashed all over its body, and a powerful electric current raged throughout the cave. The indiscriminate Discharge instantly struck all humans and Pokémon.
Charizard struggled to its feet. Ryan had just channeled a surge of healing energy into Charizard, helping it withstand the Discharge. But Charizard, staring at Ryan, who had collapsed to the ground, clenched its claws tightly, blood dripping from its fists.
Charizard's entire body was instantly engulfed in flames, but they quickly extinguished. It knew its health was too low to use Flare Blitz again. Its trainer had been temporarily knocked unconscious by the Discharge, leaving it on its own.
But then a thought struck it, and it rushed to Ryan's side, opening the remaining five Poké Balls on his belt. Gengar, Blissey, Metagross, Shelgon, and Gallade appeared. Charizard roared, and Blissey nodded, immediately sending a Heal Pulse to restore Charizard's health.
Metagross and Gallade used Psychic to move the four unconscious people and their Pokémon out of the cave. Gengar also vanished into thin air. Shelgon looked at Black Kyurem and, without hesitation, launched a Draco Meteor at it.
Charizard, once again wrapped in flames, launched a Flare Blitz towards Black Kyurem. Black Kyurem roared, unleashing a Blizzard upon Charizard and the others.
Metagross faced the Blizzard head-on. As a Steel/Psychic-type, Ice-type moves were only normally effective against it, so it was best positioned to help block the Blizzard.
Even so, Blissey's Heal Pulse helped Metagross recover, barely preventing it from being knocked out by the Blizzard.
Charizard's Flare Blitz knocked Black Kyurem off balance. Charizard gasped, then unleashed a Flamethrower directly into Black Kyurem's face. Black Kyurem roared, and just as it was about to unleash another Blizzard, Gallade struck it directly in the jaw with a Psycho Cut, interrupting the attack.
But the next second, Gallade was slapped back and sent flying, colliding heavily with Shelgon, knocking both of them out. Shelgon rolled several times before finally coming to a stop.
Shelgon roared, its body glowing with evolutionary light. Shelgon swooped down with a Dragon Rush, slamming into Black Kyurem. Black Kyurem instantly pinned Shelgon to the ground with a single Dragon Claw, knocking it unconscious. Charizard seized the opportunity to attack Black Kyurem's back, its flaming claws forming and slashing at it with Fire Punch.
Black Kyurem roared in pain. Gengar, who had been invisible, appeared and struck Black Kyurem with Shadow Ball. But a second later, Black Kyurem blasted Gengar away, and a Dragon Breath struck Gengar directly. Before Gengar lost consciousness, it desperately tried to hit Black Kyurem with Destiny Bond, but was undoubtedly blasted away.
Before falling unconscious, Gengar thought helplessly: As expected, without mastering Origin Power, there's no way to truly harm it.
Indeed, the difference between mastering Origin Power and not mastering it was this vast. Without it, one couldn't inflict significant damage to a Pokémon that possessed it. Only by mastering it could one unleash the power of Origin on all abilities, thereby inflicting even greater damage.
Charizard watched its companions fall one by one, something inside it snapping. Fierce flames blazed around Charizard. As these flames touched Black Kyurem, it screamed and recoiled. A fierce freezing aura instantly erupted from its body, extinguishing the flames.
But Charizard knew it could reignite the flames. It had achieved a breakthrough! It had successfully entered the realm of a Legendary Pokémon!
Charizard roared to the sky, venting its triumph. Its flaming claws reformed, and with a flap of its wings, it descended upon Black Kyurem's head. With a single powerful blow, it smashed Black Kyurem's head into the ground, shattering the ice with a tremendous crash.
"Metagross, Hammer Arm! Blissey, Healing Wish on Reshiram! Charizard, Heat Wave to suppress Black Kyurem! Pheromosa, High Jump Kick!" Ryan shouted, bracing himself against the rock wall, and simultaneously sent out Pheromosa.
With Ryan's return to consciousness, his Pokémon instantly regained their coordination. Metagross swung its arms and slammed heavily onto Black Kyurem's head, which was still dazed from Charizard's blow. Charizard also soared into the air, flapping its wings with all its might, using Heat Wave to suppress Black Kyurem.
Black Kyurem roared and tried to rise, but Pheromosa, transformed into a stream of light, kicked it back down with High Jump Kick, preventing it from moving. At the same time, Blissey sacrificed its own health, its body emitting a white glow. Then, a burst of light blue energy shone onto the frozen Reshiram.
Reshiram's tail instantly glowed red, and a crackling sound echoed. Reshiram struggled to break free from the ice, returning to full health.
"Reshiram, one more Blue Flare!" Ryan shouted.
Reshiram roared, unleashing a cyan flame that successfully struck the immobilized Black Kyurem. A violent explosion erupted, and Black Kyurem was finally defeated by the final blast of Blue Flare.
"Go, Ultra Ball!" Ryan threw the Ultra Ball without hesitation.
