Amara, after getting ready for school, walked down the stairs, humming happily to herself.
Well...
She was trying to walk down the stairs.
In reality, she was far too distracted by the tiny green particles floating around her.
They drifted beside her like playful little fireflies, circling her fingers whenever she lifted her hand. Every time she thought about moving them, they obeyed immediately.
It was so cool.
Every few seconds one would swirl around her fingers before lazily circling her head again.
Amara couldn't stop herself from smiling.
She was practically bouncing down the stairs, secretly playing with the mysterious green particles...
Move left...
The particles obediently floated left.
Now right...
They drifted right.Oh my God... they actually listen!
Her eyes sparkled."So cute!"
She couldn't stop smiling. "My own little healing babies."
This is so awesome! ROB really wasn't kidding!
Amara giggled and practically bounced down the remaining stairs, completely absorbed in her own little world, Amara almost missed the last step.
Downstairs, Charlie was standing near the kitchen counter making coffee while Bella was already sitting at the dining table, drinking hers much faster than any normal human should at seven in the morning.
Charlie looked up first.
Seeing Amara unusually cheerful this early made the corners of his lips lift into a warm smile.
"Morning, kiddo. Coffee's ready."He gestured toward the coffee pot.
Only then did Amara realize she had already reached the dining table.
She blinked.
"Oh..."
She looked around awkwardly before rubbing the back of her neck. "Morning, Charlie... and thanks."
Charlie chuckled. "No problem."
She picked up her mug while still absentmindedly watching several green particles lazily orbit around it.
Bella narrowed her eyes. Then she bit her lip.
Amara immediately noticed that expression. She glared at Bella.
Bella looked away. Very innocently. As if she wasn't thinking about teasing her.
Not suspicious at all.
Amara's eyes practically screamed,"Don't you dare."
Bella's eyes answered,"I'm absolutely going to."
Bella failed to hold it in and quietly snorted.
Amara gave her another death glare before taking a dramatic sip of coffee."Hmph."
Charlie looked between the two girls."...Do I even want to know?"
Both girls answered at exactly the same time. "No."
Charlie wisely decided not to ask.Experience had taught him that life was much more peaceful that way.
Amara sighed dramatically before sitting down.
The three of them fell into an easy morning conversation.
Charlie asked about school.Bella complained about homework. Amara occasionally answered while secretly focusing on something entirely different.
The floating green particles.Very carefully...
Very slowly...
She tried pushing a small cluster toward Charlie.
At first, nothing happened.
Then suddenly...
The moment the particles reached him...
They reacted. Almost as if they had finally found something they had been searching for.
The tiny lights rushed toward Charlie without hesitation before disappearing into his body one after another.
Amara's eyes widened.
Whoa...
She could actually feel it.Not with her hands.
Not with her eyes.
But somehow...
She instinctively knew what they were doing.Healing.
The particles spread through Charlie's body like tiny streams of warm spring water.
Years of accumulated exhaustion.Old aches.Stiff muscles.Countless sleepless nights.
Everything was quietly being repaired. Not dramatically. Not instantly.Just... naturally.
As if his body had always been meant to be this healthy.
Charlie unconsciously straightened in his chair.
His shoulders relaxed.
The constant stiffness around his neck disappeared.
Even the dull tiredness behind his eyes quietly faded away.
He blinked once.Twice.
His coffee suddenly smelled better. His back didn't ache anymore. His knees felt strangely lighter.
Charlie frowned ever so slightly.
...Huh.
Across the table...
Amara nearly vibrated with excitement.
Whoa!
Amara looked like an excited scientist watching a successful experiment.
"IT WORKED!"
"THEY'RE ACTUALLY HEALING HIM!"
"Go, little healing babies!"She had to stop herself from clapping.
Instead, she simply kept stealing little glances at Charlie every few seconds.
She kept secretly watching Charlie while trying to look completely normal.
Unfortunately...
She wasn't very good at acting.
Bella slowly lowered her coffee mug.Her eyes moved from Amara...to Charlie...
...then back to Amara again.
She couldn't see the green particles. Not even a little.
But she could clearly tell Amara was staring at Charlie for absolutely no normal reason.
Bella narrowed her eyes. She's hiding something.
Meanwhile...
Charlie also noticed.
Years of being Forks' police chief had sharpened his instincts.Noticing suspicious behavior was practically part of his DNA.
He could feel Amara watching him.He could also feel...
Better.Much better.Oddly better.
He didn't know why.But something had changed.
His body felt lighter than it had in years. He quietly looked at Amara for a brief second. Then looked back at his coffee.
Charlie Swan had always been the kind of man who didn't ask questions until he absolutely had to.
So...
He simply stayed quiet.
Bella, however, remembered something. This morning.Back in Amara's bedroom.
She had suddenly stopped feeling sleepy for no reason.
At the time she had brushed it off.
Now...
Watching Amara secretly stare at Charlie...
Bella slowly connected the dots....It happened to me too.
Her eyes softened slightly.Whatever Amara's hiding...
She's probably not ready to talk about it.
Bella decided then and there that she'd ask her later.
Privately.
When nobody else was around.
What Bella didn't know....was that Charlie had reached almost the exact same conclusion.
Except unlike Bella...
Charlie chose not to ask at all.Not because he wasn't curious. But because he trusted Amara. If she wanted to tell him...She would.
Until then...
He would simply pretend he hadn't noticed anything.
Meanwhile...
The only person completely unaware that the other two had noticed something...
Was Amara herself.
She happily sipped her coffee.Looking far too pleased with herself.
Inside her head she was celebrating. She happily watched her little healing particles floating around Charlie like proud little workers.
"They're amazing!"
"Look how hardworking they are!" She nearly laughed out loud.
Dense.Absolutely, wonderfully dense.
Bella finally broke the strange silence."We're going to be late."
She stood up, grabbed her bag and looked toward Amara."And today...I'm riding with you."
Amara blinked.
"You are?"
Bella nodded.
"Yep."
She headed toward the front door.
"Come on."
Charlie carried both empty mugs toward the sink before looking back at the girls.
"Drive safely."
"We will!" Bella answered.
"Bye, Charlie!" Amara added cheerfully before following after her.
Charlie smiled.
"Bye, girls. Take care."
The front door closed behind them.
The cool Forks air greeted them immediately.
Amara twirled her car keys around one finger before dramatically clicking the unlock button.
Her sleek black Audi responded with a cheerful beep. The headlights blinked.
She spread one arm toward the car like a game show host presenting the grand prize.
She smirked at Bella.
"So... At last you've abandoned that monstrous truck of yours."
"And your equally stupid boyfriend." She placed a hand over her heart dramatically.
"I knew you'd eventually develop proper taste."
Bella climbed into the passenger seat with exaggerated elegance She calmly buckled her seatbelt.
Then looked at Amara with complete seriousnesslike royalty addressing a commoner. "I merely decided to bless you with my presence today..."
She paused dramatically."...Peasant."
Amara stared at her.
"...Excuse me?"
Bella leaned back comfortably.
"You should feel honored.I chose your car."
Amara snorted and stared at her with intense fake glare.Bella stared back. Two seconds later...
Both sisters burst into laughter.
Amara pointed a finger accusingly. "Your boyfriend has officially corrupted you."
Bella shrugged."I learned from the best."
"Oh please."
"I'm an excellent influence."
Bella looked at her.Slowly.Very slowly.
She raised one eyebrow. "You literally screamed into your pillow this morning because I teased you."
"..."
"That was... strategic screaming."
Bella laughed even harder.
"Sure.Strategic."
Amara dramatically started the engine."You know what?"
Bella hummed.
"I'm revoking your passenger princess privileges."
Bella smiled sweetly. "You can't."
"And why not?"
"Because you're too nice."
"..."
"..."
Amara sighed dramatically. "I hate how accurate that is."
Bella grinned victoriously while settling comfortably into the leather seat.
Inside the house...
Charlie watched through the living room window as the two girls laughed over something completely ridiculous before Amara drove away.
A small smile appeared on his face.
The house suddenly felt quieter. But somehow...Warmer too.
