Chapter 37 - Golden Lion

In Australia, on the other side of the world, one would find the SSS rank man who had talked to Golden Lion during the international meeting. He was currently high in the sky, with a hammer gripped tightly in both hands, while clashing violently and repeatedly against a huge spider with literally hundreds of eyes covering its entire body.

His adopted title and nickname was Thor. Blessed personally by both the god of Thunder, Thor, and the God of Lightning, Zeus, he was blessed with a legendary hammer that had been crafted directly by the fundamental concept of lightning itself.

"Bringer Of Ragnarok!"

Channeling his massive Mana reserves directly into the hammer, he burst towards the spider at incredible speed with tremendous force.

This aggressive attack came right after a support mage positioned below suddenly created a blinding flash of intense light, which stunned the spider temporarily and disrupted its vision.

Each individual eye on the spider's body had a unique supernatural ability—some eyes turned those it looked at directly into solid stone, some charmed a person and took complete control of their mind, others helped it read and predict a person's movement perfectly before they made it, and the list of dangerous abilities went on and on endlessly.

Thor's entire battle strategy here was centered around carefully reading what every single eye on the spider's body did, keeping careful track of every eye's position and unique ability, and watching intently for the telltale signs when each one was about to be used against him or his allies.

So, with the perfect moment arriving when all eyes were simultaneously open at once, and the spider was about to use multiple devastating abilities at the same time, he had signaled a mage positioned below to cast the blinding spell at precisely the right moment. And he had moved in aggressively for the killing attack at that exact instant.

Boom

The impact sounded like the end of the world itself, apocalyptic in scale. The collision of a massive war hammer empowered with the overwhelming power of concentrated lightning shook the heavens above violently and created a devastating earthquake that was felt clearly for thousands of miles in every direction across the continent.

But the spider's incredibly hard protective shell wasn't affected or damaged by the hammer's physical impact at all, remaining completely intact. Still, the spider didn't move from its position or counterattack, because the lightning energy from the hammer had traveled directly through its armor like electricity through a conductor, frying it from the inside out with overwhelming electrical energy that cooked its internal organs.

"It's done." Thor said the words softly, completely exhausted from the effort.

A total of 30 grueling minutes of intense combat to defeat just one S-tier monster that wasn't even the actual region boss controlling this area, but was instead sent specifically to attack them by the region boss as a test or distraction.

Sighing softly with relief and exhaustion, he floated upward into the sky to survey the battlefield and assess the situation, just to pause in complete shock at what he witnessed.

He saw one of the spider's hundreds of eyes disappearing completely and vanishing, and with it, the spider stood up once more as if nothing had happened. Although it was now missing one eye from its body, its combat power, which had been sitting at exactly 4 million before, was now at 4.1 million instead—it had actually gotten stronger.

"Fuck…" Thor's eyes widened dramatically at this horrifying sight.

If what he guessed was true based on this pattern, he needed to kill this monster 100s times, or else it would just keep coming back to life, over and over again, endlessly until it ran out of eyes.

He looked at the other smaller spiders in the distance, which had been sent flying away by the massive shock wave from his devastating attack, but still, they were regrouping and coming in for round two, even though the shock wave had killed outright or seriously injured many of them.

He looked down towards his army positioned below him. They were tired and exhausted beyond measure, and were waiting desperately for him to come down and support them directly in their ongoing battles. Many of them had been fighting continuously for days on end without proper rest or sleep.

But he was tired as well, even more so than them. Before that international call with the other overlords, he had been fighting much longer than all of them combined, and didn't even have much available time to properly increase his own strength through training or consuming crystals.

Instead, the nonstop fighting had become an involuntary and brutal form of training for him. He ate whatever monster crystals he could get his hands on while fighting and kept fighting without pause or complaint. The only break he had gotten at all was that call with the other overlords, and even then, the call wasn't very long at all.

'Are they trying to tire us out and wear us down? This spider is the perfect monster for that strategy; I sense that they did something to it to ensure no one can read its stats or understand its abilities.' Thor thought grimly to himself, his heart heavy with the crushing burden of leadership and responsibility.

At this rate of attrition, they would lose another region soon and have to fall back again defensively, which in turn would weaken him further due to losing the territorial buff that came with controlling land.

"We have to hold on as long as we can, backup is coming!" Thor roared loudly to inspire his troops and give them hope, causing his army below to grit their teeth with renewed determination despite their exhaustion.

They knew full well that Thor was carrying them through this impossible situation almost single-handedly. They knew he was tired and was weak from the nonstop fighting that never seemed to end.

But they were completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of enemies. Many of their strongest and most skilled people had been brutally slaughtered by the monsters in previous battles, leaving behind only 7 remaining SS-tier talents who were all suffering from their own serious injuries and weren't at full strength.

"Solar Beam." A soft voice sounded from somewhere in the sky, causing everyone on the battlefield below to pause mid-action, unsure where the voice came from or who had spoken those words.

But the very next instant, a beam of extremely compressed and concentrated solar power pierced directly through the spider's head, destroying it completely with one shot and leaving nothing behind but ash.

Thor's eyes widened in complete and utter shock before quickly looking towards the west direction, where a beam of brilliant light soon arrived at incredible speed, turning back into a recognizable human form upon arrival, that being Golden Lion himself standing there.

"I was able to arrive so fast, since… well, I can move at the speed of light." Golden Lion said calmly and matter-of-factly, all while Thor's body relaxed involuntarily and completely, unable to keep up his guard against Golden Lion any longer, no matter how hard he tried.

Although he wanted desperately to remain awake and alert just in case this was some kind of trick or trap, after more than a full month without any sleep whatsoever and nonstop fighting every single day without rest, his pupils rolled backwards into his head as he fainted and collapsed unconscious to the ground.

"Take him to rest, all of you should head back to the wall, I would deal with these guys."

Golden Lion said calmly and confidently, looking down at Thor's unconscious form with genuine respect for what the man had endured.

'He was so incredibly fast and powerful, even while under a devastating 90% debuff from extreme sleep deprivation and exhaustion. It's that hammer he wields, just what type of item gives such an overwhelming 10x combat power buff? Does he have low durability and defense stats as a trade-off in return for overwhelming speed and attack power?'

'No, wait, he actually has high durability; it's his lightning specifically that protects him, which is why he is so fast and powerful in combat. That lightning is allowing him to keep up with a spider that has a combat power of 4 million while he only has a combat power of 3 million at most; that's a huge gap of 1 million that his lightning allows him to cross..l.'

Golden Lion thought carefully, watching as the soldiers carefully and gently took Thor away to safety, where he could rest.

Once they were away and at a safe distance from the active battlefield, Golden Lion's pupils slowly took on the distinct shape of lion pupils, vertical and predatory. He stepped firmly onto the ground, and instantly, it was like he had transformed into a living sun burning with power. All the incoming monsters charging towards him were burned away completely and utterly, atoms and all, leaving absolutely nothing behind but dust.
