In just over ten minutes, Officer Elma had obtained all the information she needed.
Although she remained curious about the "strange man" Li Qingyuan mentioned—who reportedly subdued more than thirty gangsters in under a minute—cross-referencing with witnesses and even the knocked-out criminals themselves would easily clarify things.
"Thank you very much for your cooperation!"
A sturdy-looking white officer stepped forward, thanking Li Qingyuan politely.
Clearly, the New York Police Department was skilled in psychological tactics. They had sent the attractive, fair-skinned, blue-eyed female officer earlier to conduct the interview. Now that the record was complete, she was replaced.
Li Qingyuan didn't mind; he had already gotten the female officer's phone number!
"No problem, cooperating with the police is a duty of every citizen!" Li Qingyuan replied, a touch of pride in his voice after receiving nine years of compulsory education.
"Your daughters weren't scared, were they?" The middle-aged officer glanced at Wanda and Chen Ying with concern.
"I think they're fine!"
Li Qingyuan looked at the two girls, who were happily devouring ice cream. Wanda, noticing his gaze, stuck her tongue out playfully. That seemed reassuring enough.
"That's good. It wouldn't do for the children to be traumatized," the officer said, finally exhaling in relief.
"By the way, officer, may I ask your name?" Li Qingyuan asked with a frown. Something about this old man seemed off—was he a weirdo who liked children? Should he "deal with him" later just in case?
"I'm Inspector George Stacy, responsible for Manhattan precincts. I have a daughter myself, only six years old. Seeing your daughters reminded me of her—probably what it's like to be a parent," George Stacy explained, reading Li Qingyuan's expression carefully.
Li Qingyuan relaxed, extending his hand.
"Inspector Stacy, nice to meet you!"
George Stacy was famous mainly because of his daughter, Gwen Stacy. In every version of Spider-Man's story, Gwen was Peter Parker's pivotal figure—though, according to Li Qingyuan's research, in this world, Spider-Man's counterpart might have died tragically alongside Gwen.
Now, since Norman Osborn was preoccupied with his experiments, Spider-Man probably wasn't involved, so Gwen likely remained safe.
Beyond Gwen, Li Qingyuan also knew it was wise to maintain a good relationship with Inspector Stacy. Despite his current rank, by the time Gwen entered high school, he would be NYPD commissioner—a significant figure, even in a city filled with superheroes.
After a few polite exchanges, they prepared to leave. Stacy needed to return to file reports, and the girls should get some sleep.
"Wait… don't you feel like something's missing?" As the previously blocked streets cleared and Li Qingyuan got into a taxi with Wanda and Chen Ying, he suddenly realized they had forgotten someone.
"Yes! Something is missing!" Wanda and Chen Ying nodded frantically.
"Pietro!"
"Brother!"
"Wanda's brother!"
All three shouted in unison. Ever since the subway kidnapping incident, they had completely forgotten Pietro. His presence had been too subtle.
"Where did he go?" Wanda grabbed Li Qingyuan's arm, tears welling in her eyes. Though unreliable, Pietro was Wanda's only blood relative, so she was frantic.
"Don't worry, that kid Pietro is fine!" Li Qingyuan comforted her, lifting her into his arms.
Pietro must have been separated during the subway chaos. Li Qingyuan had been focused on the girls and didn't notice him. Most likely, he had simply been swept away by the crowd.
Had they remembered earlier, Inspector Stacy could have helped issue a search order immediately. Now, filing a police report might take several days before anyone acted, considering New York's constant stream of emergencies.
"But he's alone!" Wanda clasped her small hands together. While boys generally face lower risks, anything could happen—who knew what kind of people Pietro might encounter?
"Alright, first I'll take Chen Ying home, then I'll help you find Pietro," Li Qingyuan decided. Returning to sleep and letting Pietro come back on his own might work, but with Wanda like this, she wouldn't rest until he was found.
"And I want to find Wanda's brother too!" Chen Ying raised her hand.
She clearly didn't want to go home so soon.
"Not now!" Li Qingyuan ruffled her hair. This girl had bounced back from tears in under an hour, already full of energy and ready for adventure—a testament to how resilient children could be.
