Chen Ying trembled and sobbed, her frail body shaking, while Wanda, though not crying uncontrollably, still wore a look of shock on her small face.
For New Yorkers, encountering such incidents was almost routine—but for two eleven-year-old girls, it was a jolt to their young minds.
"It's okay now, the bad guys have been dealt with! Don't be scared!"
Faced with the clearly frightened girls, Li Qingyuan didn't know what to do either. He could only slowly soothe them. After all, there wasn't much else he could do.
He certainly couldn't go off and kill all the kidnappers right now—doing so would probably terrify the girls even more.
"Waaah—" Chen Ying buried herself in his arms and cried loudly. She hadn't dared to cry during the tense moments earlier; now that it was over, she had to release her pent-up emotions.
Wanda, on the other hand, first tried to hold back tears, glancing around. When she spotted something fallen on the ground, her expression shifted, and she happily ran over.
"Wanda, what are you doing?" Li Qingyuan quickly held Chen Ying tighter and followed her. Although the kidnappers were now unconscious, who knew if someone had escaped?
"My Buzz Lightyear is here!" Wanda picked up two fallen toy figures, smiling brightly.
Ah, so that explained it—Wanda hadn't been terrified; she was upset that her newly acquired toy had been knocked away. Having come from Sokovia, she was used to big scenes. This small-scale kidnapping meant little to her.
"Chen Ying, here's your Officer Hubba!" Wanda handed Chen Ying her toy.
"Waaah—Hubba—"
Chen Ying cried for a bit, venting her frustration, then took her toy from Wanda while still sniffling.
"All right, we should go now." Li Qingyuan ruffled Chen Ying's hair, then took both girls' hands.
"Freeze—police!"
A late-arriving squad of officers quickly surrounded the subway entrance—nearly a hundred strong, leaving no way out.
But…
"What the heck!"
Li Qingyuan frowned. All the hostages had already escaped, and the enormous subway station was now left with only unconscious kidnappers and the three of them.

The officers had run all kinds of simulations in advance, and even some politicians had called the station, demanding the kidnappers be pacified, emphasizing negotiation over explosions.

Looking at the unconscious kidnappers and the young man protecting the two girls, the officers awkwardly holstered their guns and began loading the captives into police cars.
The "heavy-handed" superheroes had clearly been too effective—everyone remained unconscious.
Why did the police assume these unconscious men were kidnappers?
Tight suits and masked faces—if they weren't criminals, they must be superheroes, right?
Li Qingyuan, the only witness, was surrounded by officers to give his statement.

Wanting to get the children home early, Li Qingyuan didn't accompany the police to the station. Instead, he had them find a McDonald's, where they could sit and discuss the incident.
"Mr. Li, according to your account, the subway lost power, and after about a minute, the lights returned, and the kidnappers were already incapacitated, correct?" asked a beautiful policewoman, closing her notebook and gazing at Li Qingyuan with piercing blue eyes.
"Yes! About a minute, though I'm not certain," he replied, noticing the woman's beauty. He felt an odd urge to discuss adult topics with her.
Wanda and Chen Ying were wonderful, but still too young. He couldn't chat with them about adult matters during lonely nights in the main world.
Honestly, if he just wanted to casually alleviate loneliness, it would be easy—just a wave of the hand in New York, and plenty of young, attractive women would appear.
But after ten years of refinement in the Caribbean world, he had become picky. Ordinary beauties no longer sparked interest.
It was like a poor man who could enjoy any pork dish because it was all he could afford—boiled, braised, even shredded, all would suffice.
