Chapter 142 - An Unexpected Ending

"A-Are you sure this will really work?" Alice felt as if a few cartoon crows were circling above her head. If this were the manga version, she'd definitely have a whole bunch of black lines on her forehead right now.

"Relax. Since Li is doing it this way, it's definitely going to work!" Jill spoke with absolute confidence in her man, telling Alice to rest at least one hundred and twenty hearts.

"Everyone inside, listen up. You're already surrounded. I'm giving you one hour to come out and surrender. If you don't surrender within an hour, we will begin preparing peacekeepers for a full-area cleansing strike!" Alice glanced down at the loudspeaker "repeat machine" broadcasting the message, completely unable to understand where Jill's confidence was coming from.

The Hive was the Umbrella Corporation's lifeline. No matter if it was Wesker or Isaacs himself—unless their brains short-circuited—they would absolutely never…

What did she just see?

Several people walked out from the Hive in a neat line: Wesker with his sunglasses, Isaacs in a suit, a beautiful Chinese woman in a red high-slit dress split all the way up to her waist, and… an elderly woman in a wheelchair?

"Excellent. Looks like everyone is in a very cooperative mood." Li Qingyuan smiled kindly at the four who walked out of the Hive.

Originally, because he needed the T-virus cure stored inside the Hive, he was prepared to lead Jill and Claire inside for a fight.

But now that Isaacs' clone said he could manufacture the cure, why should Li take that risk and go into the Hive?

Wouldn't that just be adding unnecessary trouble to his own schedule?

Sure, the Hive had the Red Queen AI system… but he had the White Queen as backup!

"We didn't come out because we want to 'cooperate' with you." Wesker's mouth curved into a cold smirk. Then—whoosh!—his entire body flashed forward like a phantom, charging straight at Li.

Originally, Wesker and Isaacs had prepared countless traps inside the Hive, waiting for Li Qingyuan to walk into the perfect kill-box. But who could have predicted that such a flawless plan would be completely overturned by a single clone?

The Hive held the world's only sample of the T-virus cure, so the two were certain the enemy wouldn't dare act rashly. To obtain the cure, Li would have to fight his way through waves of defenses, all the way down to the bottom level.

But the clone Isaacs' appearance completely destroyed that balance!

According to the Red Queen's calculations, if they didn't come out, there was a 97% chance the enemy would actually lock the doors and throw in a peacekeeper bomb.

After all, the guy's thinking patterns were basically that of a madman—he didn't seem to care about nuclear winter at all. So after carefully thinking for three minutes, Dr. Isaacs very sensibly decided that everyone should sit down and talk things out calmly. No mushroom clouds, please—very not environmentally friendly!

Of course, Isaacs still believed he had a chance to turn the tables.

The enemy had five people; they had four. Excluding his own clone and Alicia—both combat weaklings—that made it three against four. Not necessarily unwinnable.

He and Wesker both had their bodies massively enhanced by the T-virus, and Ada Wong was one of the world's top agents. If everyone fought seriously, who won or lost was truly hard to say.

Hiding in the Hive meant certain death. Coming out to "surrender" actually gave them a chance to reverse the situation. For a smart person, the choice was obvious.

"Of course you'd try that trick!" Wesker shouted, then charged straight into an upright suitcase—crashing into it face-first and knocking himself cross-eyed.

To be honest, in terms of physical attributes and combat skill, Wesker was far more suited to be the big final villain than Isaacs. His phantom strike alone was stylish enough to leave everyone else in the dust.

Back when he got hit with plot armor and killed, movie fans cursed the director for having no sincerity.

So the moment Wesker opened his mouth earlier, Li Qingyuan—relying purely on instinct—lifted a suitcase and positioned it at his side as a shield.

Sure enough, the guy smashed into the ultra-alloy suitcase head-on and knocked himself silly.

Meanwhile, Isaacs and Ada Wong also launched attacks at their targets.

Li Qingyuan took a quick glance. Jill and Claire were currently suppressing Ada Wong, while Isaacs was pressing Alice hard.

But that was fine—Alice was the destined protagonist. She definitely wouldn't die that easily. His priority now was figuring out how to kill Wesker!

Wesker shook his head and quickly got back on his feet. The phantom strike could catch enemies off guard, but if the opponent predicted it, it could easily be countered.

So he decided to engage in a full-on fistfight!

Bang!

The two exchanged a punch. Li Qingyuan spun through the air in a three-thousand-six-hundred-degree rotation and was sent flying by Wesker.

He couldn't help it—his strength stat was basically that of a normal human. Wesker, empowered by the T-virus and assisted by a combat simulation computer, had at least twenty points of strength.

If Li's constitution weren't high enough, that one punch would have killed him!

"Li!"

Jill, who had been about to finish off Ada Wong, rushed toward them.

"You've got some skill after all." Li wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. His close-combat ability was absolutely terrible—definitely one of the worst among all transmigrators, basically playing the role of a mage.

"Alice isn't Dr. Isaacs' match. As long as I kill you, we still win this battle!" Wesker said excitedly.

Even if he lost many times before, it didn't matter. Kids cared about the process—adults only cared about results.

"Alicia, I request that you immediately strip Albert Wesker of all positions within the Umbrella Corporation. Remember—this is for the good of the world." Li ignored Wesker and turned toward the woman in the wheelchair.

In truth, this elderly-looking woman was only in her thirties. She looked this way because of a strange premature-aging genetic condition—similar to the Osborn family's hereditary disease.

Alicia Marcus was the only daughter of Umbrella founder James Marcus. Like Dr. Isaacs, she owned fifty percent of Umbrella's shares, making her one of the most powerful women in the world.

She had always opposed the so-called global annihilation plan. The reason Alice was able to single-handedly topple the Umbrella Corporation was largely because Alicia supported her behind the scenes.

"In the name of Alicia Marcus, I hereby strip Albert Wesker of all positions within the Umbrella Corporation."

The woman who had looked like she might drop dead any moment suddenly swept away her exhaustion and spoke clearly to the air.

"No!"

Both Wesker and Dr. Isaacs—who had been suppressing Alice—shouted in terror.

Unfortunately, for someone with half the company's shares, dismissing an employee was nothing more than—

one simple sentence.
