Chapter 77 - Chapter 77: Emotionless, Like a Walking Corpse

After speaking, Xiaoji handed the phone to Su Qing, who glared at him fiercely, her eyes filled with disdain and disgust.

Seeing that look in Su Qing's eyes, Xiaoji's heart sank. Her gaze was like a knife, stabbing straight into his heart, or like countless venomous needles piercing his core.

He had never seen such an expression from Su Qing before. It was a look of bone-deep hatred, mixed with mockery, scorn, and utter revulsion.

A faint sense of unease crept into his heart. At that moment, Su Qing turned halfway, her voice icy as she said, "I am absolutely divorcing you."

With that, she turned away, her tone so cold it sent chills down his spine.

Xiaoji muttered under his breath, "I won't divorce you."

Then he reached out to turn her back toward him, still anxious about having angered her with his earlier actions.

Suddenly, Su Qing sat up, her eyes blazing with fury as she roared, "Get out!"

That single, gritted-out word—"out"—left Xiaoji frozen in place, stunned and unsure how to react.

The hatred in Su Qing's eyes made his heart race with panic. He hadn't expected that one word from her could make him feel so guilty.

In the past, no matter what he said, Su Qing never argued back. She was always gentle and soft-spoken, never losing her temper with him.

But ever since she returned from abroad, her tone and attitude toward him had changed drastically.

He sensed that Su Qing had long grown weary and dissatisfied with him.

She had simply suppressed it, unwilling to voice it. Before, it had always been him deliberately distancing himself from Su Qing. Now, it was Su Qing who seemed to be avoiding him, whether intentionally or not.

Something felt off. Had Su Qing found out about something? Especially today—that single word she spat out, her eyes filled with icy despair and ruthlessness.

He remembered the promise he had made to Siyan: as long as Su Qing gave birth to their child, he would never touch Su Qing again.

After Su Qing gave birth to their son, he had indeed never been intimate with her again, always finding ways to avoid her. Later, he realized that Su Qing, too, seemed to be keeping her distance from him, as if unconsciously.

This was exactly what he had wanted. He noticed that Su Qing had grown increasingly cold toward him. She no longer cared about his whereabouts—where he went, whether he came home or not. She never asked anymore.

In the past, even if he didn't return or came back late, Su Qing would still call or text to check on him.

But at some point, Su Qing had stopped paying him any attention, no longer offering him anything—neither warmth nor material support.

The two of them, Homo sapiens, had become like strangers under the same roof. He simply went with the flow, waiting for the right moment to divorce.

But as Su Qing's career flourished, he became reluctant to divorce so soon. Meanwhile, Siyan grew increasingly obsessed with material comforts, making him feel more and more strained.

If he didn't divorce, Su Qing could still cover the household and their son's expenses, at least easing his financial burden.

Besides, Siyan refused to walk even a few steps without a car. Without one, she was practically immobile. His salary alone was nowhere near enough to sustain her lavish spending.

All he had to do was feign affection, coax Su Qing into buying him a car, and if she ran out of money, she'd stand little chance in a custody battle when they eventually divorced.

His goal was already within reach—all that remained was to honor his promise to Siyan: divorce Su Qing and marry her.

But when Su Qing started distancing herself, he realized this wasn't the outcome he had wanted.

Now, he found himself increasingly reluctant to return to Siyan. Every time he went back to their so-called love nest, she would ask, "Did you get intimate with your wife? Did you sleep with her?"It was a question she repeated almost every time he came home.

To keep tabs on him, she would stay up late, making sure he was either gaming or chatting with her—anything but sleeping in their marital bed.

No matter how exhausted he was, he had to stay awake until three or four in the morning, waiting for Siyan's constant surveillance.

Sometimes, when he couldn't keep his eyes open any longer, he would sleep on the small bed in the study. Siyan was terrified he might share a bed with Su Qing. She had made it clear: he belonged to her alone, and she would never allow him to sleep beside another female Homo sapiens.

He recalled how Siyan would ask him almost daily, "Do you love me? Say it—tell me you love me, that you love only me."This line played on loop in their daily lives.

Over the years, he must have said "I love you"thousands of times, yet she never tired of asking. Now, he couldn't even muster the energy to respond.

When a male Homo sapiens no longer wants to answer this question from a female Homo sapiens, all that remains is resentment. Those words had long since chased away whatever love was left.

Moreover, Siyan insisted on controlling every aspect of their life together—from daily routines to what he wore.

For years, Siyan had tried to...
