"And who are you again?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at her.
She looked taken aback for a moment—then smirked. "Oh, you don't know me? Are you trying to forget the one who almost took your life?"
Her words made my brows knit together. "I'm sorry," I said flatly. "No one has ever tried to kill me. And no one can—except the ones who meet their doom." My tone was clipped, cold. "So please, who are you?"
"Fine," she said with a dramatic sigh, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "Since we're playing polite strangers now—my name is Shirley." Her smile was sharp, smug. "Nice to meet you."
"Not so nice on my own behalf," I muttered, turning away. "I'll be taking my leave now."
I had barely taken two steps when her voice cut through the air again, smug and sing-song. "Where is your husband, gorgeous monster?"
I froze mid-step. Slowly, I turned back toward her. "What did you just say?"
