------------
"What did you say?" Bradley, who had been watching from the sidelines for a while, finally found an opening.
"Teach magic? That's something only high-level magicians can do. Are you saying you've already reached that level?"
This time, Morin didn't feel like arguing.
He could easily go on for a few thousand more words, but the readers would probably be gone by then.
That wouldn't do.
"Guess," Morin said.
Bradley nearly choked.
"You don't need to worry about what happens next," Morin added, patting Bradley on the shoulder as he pulled Catrina away. "Just keep exposing those so-called fraudulent magic tricks and make your money. We'll study for a while. When it's time to act, we'll let you know. How about that?"
"Don't say it like that!" Bradley snapped. "What do you mean by 'fraudulent magic tricks'? Everything I do is completely legal!"
-
The plan wouldn't start immediately.
Aside from teaching Catrina how to use magic, Morin still needed to study the tax laws of this era and obtain certification.
He also had to apply for a position at the IRS.
Naturally, he didn't need Catrina for that part.
Morin would handle it himself, using magic to "reasonably" overcome any potential discrimination and secure his IRS agent credentials.
After that, though, he would need her.
As an IRS agent, he couldn't hypnotize his superior to force a deal.
That would be 100% classified as an illegal transaction by the system.
But what if-
A non-IRS agent, not under Morin's authority, happened to hypnotize his boss, and the boss willingly agreed to Morin's terms?
Would that count?
Morin wasn't sure.
In his previous lives, he'd never had the chance to test something like this. He'd never had a subordinate who understood what he was trying to do.
Now that he'd found someone with mind-related abilities, the idea resurfaced.
What if he said nothing and let his partner "figure it out" on her own?
Would that still be a violation?
That was exactly why Morin needed to teach Catrina.
If he did it himself, it would be easy.
But then none of the money would convert into experience points.
Intentionally manipulating a transaction was considered illegal by the system and wouldn't count.
Why go through all this trouble?
Experience points.
That was the answer.
So if Catrina handled the hypnosis while Morin handled the deal, it shouldn't be considered illegal.
In short-
Morin wanted to test a loophole.
If it worked...
His gaze drifted to Catrina.
"So..." Catrina shifted uncomfortably under his stare, a strange sensation crawling over her skin.
She felt like she was being-
No.
She felt like she was being constantly watched.
She hurriedly interrupted. "How exactly are you planning to teach me?"
"Well..." Morin thought for a moment. "If I said we'd need to be naked and press our palms together, you'd probably call me a pervert, right?"
"What do you think?" Catrina rolled her eyes.
"Exactly," Morin sighed. "So we'll start with memorization, then move on to practice."
Catrina: "???"
"What?" she asked blankly.
"Alright, alright, I'm joking." Morin waved it off, then turned serious.
"But I do need to touch you. I have to feel the flow of magic in your body, then correct and teach you how to release it, step by step."
Morin wanted to get magic books from the Eye of Providence.
Not just spells-but fundamentals.
How was magic constructed?
He didn't know.
He only used magic according to the sensations the system fed him.
It was like wielding a finished weapon without understanding its structure or principles.
If he grasped the basics, he might even deduce magic on his own-without system skills.
And once he mastered those basics, he wouldn't need this kind of hands-on teaching anymore.
He could just explain theory, assign exercises, and let people practice.
Simple.
However...
As Morin watched Catrina lying on the sofa, face flushed, breathing uneven, clearly overwhelmed by the sudden surge of magic in her body, his expression turned odd.
At the same time, he finally understood something.
Why you had to remove a woman's clothes to heal her, but not a man's.
So that was the reason.
"Hurry up and teach me!" Catrina said anxiously. Power she'd never imagined filled her entire body.
If she didn't release it soon, she felt like she'd explode.
"Don't worry," Morin said.
He helped her sit up and placed a hand on her back.
He divided his magic into units-and did the same with hers.
Then, two units of his magic, each carrying one unit of Catrina's, were arranged according to the structure of the Advanced Guiding Heart Skill.
This was the only method he had.
He could control his own magic like a limb.
But not hers.
So he had to physically guide it, letting her directly experience how the spell worked.
No wonder she felt like she was about to burst.
She was a small pond.
He'd just dumped twice her volume of water into it.
The fact that she could withstand it at all proved her talent.
"Remember, this is how it works~" Morin said, deliberately slowing the process.
He then took out a hamster he'd bought specifically for this and placed it on a running wheel.
"Phew... phew~"
Once the magic was released, Catrina went limp, unable to move.
Morin: "..."
Why did this keep happening?
Shouldn't she just be a little tired?
"It feels like you drained me dry..." Catrina said weakly. She almost wanted to cry. This man was a devil.
"I'm sorry," Morin said honestly. "It's my first time. I'm a bit rusty. But it's not a big issue."
He infused her with some of his magic, severed the connection, and left a portion of his energy inside her to fill the emptiness.
...That sounded wrong.
Either way, the extreme exhaustion faded.
"...How much magic do you actually have?" Catrina asked, finally recovering and staring at him.
"It felt like you used almost twice my magic just to control mine. And then you gave me more. But you don't look tired at all."
"That's not important," Morin said. "How much did you remember?"
"Uh..." Catrina tried to recall the sensation. "About... half?"
In truth, it was probably less than a third.
She'd been on the verge of exploding.
Who could remember everything under those conditions?
"I get how you feel," Morin said thoughtfully. "But if I don't fully control your magic, you'll lose balance when you cast. That's why I had to use so much."
"Still, there is a solution."
"What is it?" Catrina's eyes lit up.
"Have you heard the saying..." Morin chose his words carefully.
"Practice makes perfect. Repetition becomes instinct."
Catrina: "???"
For some reason, a bad feeling crept up on her.
"If you can't sense magic when you're overwhelmed," Morin continued, "then we'll just overwhelm you until you get used to it."
In other words-
If you can't solve the problem, solve the person with the problem.
Catrina: "!!!"
What kind of solution was that?!
That was exactly the same as before!
-
One year later.
Morin walked out of the tax office, calmly accepting a slip of paper with a phone number from a female colleague.
He walked straight to a sedan parked by the roadside and opened the door.
"Did you get it?" Catrina asked.
"I did," Morin replied, glancing at her. "You're in the wrong seat."
"No, I'm not." She shook her head and tightened her grip on the steering wheel. "I got my driver's license."
"...Alright."
Morin gave in and walked around to the passenger side.
"Seriously," he said, "am I really that bad at driving? Did I force you to rush and get licensed?"
"It's not about bad!" Catrina's face turned pale as memories resurfaced.
"You weren't driving a sedan. You were driving a race car through the city."
"Not a big deal~" Morin said casually, touching the license in his hand. "We can finally begin."
Over the past year, Morin had successfully taught Catrina charm magic.
He himself had passed the IRS qualification exam.
Then he hypnotized several interviewers and the head of HR to approve his application.
It wasn't a transaction.
He just needed an official IRS agent identity so he could use magic without consequences.
Today marked the end of his new employee orientation.
Their operation could officially begin.
As Morin was thinking, the Advanced Car Master skill mirrored Catrina's actions in his mind.
His mouth twitched.
The car lurched forward.
And slammed into the car in front of them.
"So..." Morin turned slowly to look at her.
"This driver's license. How many times did you use charm magic?"
"Uh..." Catrina looked embarrassed. "Three times... maybe four?"
"Wonderful," Morin sighed, rubbing his forehead.
"If I remember correctly, there was only one written test and one road test, right?"
