What they called a great battle looked like a complete farce to Morin.
What should have been a fight to the death had turned into a turn-based performance.
They attacked one after another.
No defense.
No tactics.
Just standing there and tanking hits with their bodies.
"This is ridiculous..." Morin shook his head.
He couldn't watch anymore.
He appeared directly on the rooftop.
All the pieces were in place.
The timing was perfect.
It was time to move on.
"Stop! You're suspected of disorderly conduct. I'm issuing a fine!" Morin shouted.
Johnny went silent.
And stopped.
He didn't bother questioning the charge.
He couldn't beat Morin.
And since they were technically on the same side, resisting was pointless.
So he complied.
Once Johnny stopped, Blackheart also retreated two steps and stayed alert.
He knew how terrifying Morin was.
Without the San Venganza souls, he stood no chance.
"Morin..." Mephisto appeared as well, his face dark.
"What are you trying to do?! You're violating the contract!"
"Don't be ridiculous, old baldy," Morin said calmly. "I always honor contracts. That's why I haven't touched Blackheart, right?"
"As for Johnny, our contract only covered his trip here. Now that he's arrived, it's automatically void."
He spoke with complete confidence.
Contracts weren't something Morin signed lightly.
If he signed one, he was certain he wouldn't violate it-no matter the method.
"...Very well," Mephisto ground his teeth.
"So you're stopping me no matter what."
"That wording is inaccurate," Morin said, spreading his hands. "I'm a police officer. It's my duty."
"You killing your son? That's your business."
"But destroying public property and engaging in illegal fighting?"
"I can't pretend I didn't see that."
"This is an abandoned village!" Mephisto roared.
"As long as it's within national borders, it's public property," Morin replied casually.
Mephisto fell silent.
He couldn't argue.
He couldn't fight.
So he decided to use his trump card.
The timing was right.
He looked at Johnny.
"Johnny, are you going to violate the contract and disobey my orders?"
"I'll violate it later," Johnny said flatly. "Right now, I can't beat Mr. Morin, so I can't move."
"I can't complete the mission."
"What if I have this?" Mephisto said, a contract appearing in his hand.
"I'm not violating the contract right now," Johnny replied lazily.
There was a loophole.
The Ghost Rider could slack off.
"I know," Mephisto said calmly. "So this contract isn't yours."
"It belongs to a woman named..."
"...Roxanne Simpson."
"...You." Johnny stood up instantly.
Hellfire surged.
His expression turned grim.
"What did you do?!"
"Signing a contract with a normal human is easy," Mephisto said lightly.
"Say the name of her long-lost lover."
"She picks it up."
"The paper is a little sharp."
"A small cut."
"One drop of blood."
"And it's done."
"No matter how unfair the terms are, it's valid."
"Just like yours, all those years ago."
"You bastard!" Johnny charged forward.
But Mephisto's projection was fast.
Extremely fast.
He vanished and reappeared at a distance.
"Don't rush, Johnny," Mephisto smiled in triumph.
He looked at Johnny, blazing with Hellfire.
Then at Morin.
All the frustration of the past few days finally released.
"How about another deal?"
"Kill Blackheart."
"Give me all the San Venganza souls."
"I'll break Roxanne's contract."
"Give her freedom."
"And promise never to harm her again."
Mephisto wasn't stupid.
He knew Johnny couldn't fight Morin.
Even a fully mastered Ghost Rider wouldn't scratch him.
So he only demanded Blackheart and the souls.
Morin wouldn't interfere.
Mephisto would win.
That wasn't the end of it.
A sharp glint flashed in his eyes.
Then vanished.
"What do you say?" Mephisto asked softly.
"My Johnny."
"My knight."
"Save your lover."
"Kill a demon."
"Or abandon her soul for someone who only cares about his own gain?"
"...Mr. Morin," Johnny said hoarsely.
Rage burned inside him.
But he was powerless.
"Is the contract real?"
"It's real," Morin nodded.
Johnny's last shred of hope shattered.
"Then..."
"Please."
"Let me kill Blackheart."
"I beg you."
"I'm sorry," Morin said calmly, shaking his head.
"I can't."
It wasn't time yet.
He wanted Mephisto to believe he'd won.
To savor it.
Then lose everything at the end.
That moment would be worth everything.
Johnny had to suffer a little first.
His acting wasn't good enough.
Keeping him in the dark was safer.
"But she's my lover!" Johnny stared at him in disbelief.
His thoughts were chaos.
Mephisto's words echoed endlessly.
"And all I'm doing is killing Blackheart!"
"If it were that simple, fine," Morin said. "But I'm certain this leads to something worse."
"Screw the conspiracy!" Johnny roared.
"I just want to save her!"
"Mephisto isn't trustworthy," Morin said. "Are you sure you want to believe him?"
"We can sign a contract," Mephisto smiled, producing a stack of them.
"As long as Morin doesn't interfere, Roxanne lives."
Johnny read the terms.
Too perfect.
He looked at Morin hopefully.
"Everything?" Morin laughed.
"What if Johnny fails and Blackheart runs wild?"
"That's not my problem," Mephisto said smugly.
"I have the advantage."
"This isn't a negotiation."
"It's a demand!"
"Sign it."
"Or she dies."
"And her soul suffers in hell for millions of years!"
All his humiliation reversed in one moment.
"I'm sorry," Morin said softly.
"I have to think about the world."
"No!" Johnny roared.
The Hellfire exploded.
His power surged.
Completely different from before.
"Hahaha!" Mephisto laughed.
"Yes! Despair!"
"Hatred and pain!"
"As expected," Morin nodded. "Extreme emotions unlock power best."
"All memories are awakening."
"The Spirit of Vengeance is fully unleashed."
"...What are you saying?" Mephisto froze.
Morin's words felt wrong.
"You don't actually think this works, do you?" Morin mocked.
"Fooled twice by the same trick?"
"Impressive."
"What are you talking about?!" Mephisto snarled.
He looked at the contract.
And realized.
The blood-
It was fake.
"What did you do?!" Mephisto roared.
"I solved the problem," Morin said calmly.
Teleportation light flashed.
Someone appeared.
"...Roxanne?"
Johnny's flames surged.
Hope flooded him.
The Hellfire shifted.
Yellow.
Then blue.
Johnny didn't dare approach.
Afraid he'd hurt her.
"Johnny," Roxanne said, hugging him without hesitation.
"Promise me you'll never leave again."
"I promise," Johnny said.
Then looked at Morin.
For confirmation.
"I replaced the trick," Morin said.
"That blood was pig's blood."
"Are you satisfied now?"
Johnny couldn't speak.
Tension drained from his body.
At that moment, the Hellfire fully turned blue.
Not Hellfire anymore.
But the purified flames of the Spirit of Vengeance.
Moved by love.
Regaining sanity.
All contracts with Mephisto-void.
Mephisto's eyes went wide.
Tricked again.
And worse-
The Spirit was no longer his.
That clause.
The one he feared.
If the Spirit regained sanity, his control ended.
That was why he'd made deals in the original timeline.
Now?
It was gone.
Completely.
Mephisto finally processed it.
And snapped.
"Aaaaaaaaaah!"
Blackheart laughed.
Finally holding the San Venganza contract.
"Hahaha! Look at you, Mephisto!"
"I told you to give me the throne!"
"All the souls-mine!"
Johnny tried to move.
Morin teleported him away.
They were no longer needed.
"Heh heh..." Mephisto laughed darkly.
He turned to Blackheart.
"I didn't want to use this."
"But now?"
"I will."
He reached out.
A hidden spell activated.
"No-Father!" Blackheart screamed.
"Only now you remember?" Mephisto said gently.
Embracing him.
"I forgive you."
"Thank you... Father," Blackheart said stiffly.
"Can you release the control?"
"No," Mephisto whispered.
Runes spread.
Souls poured in.
Blackheart grew silent.
Power surged.
But he no longer spoke.
"Clap. Clap. Clap."
Morin applauded.
Putting away the recording device.
"Beautiful."
"A real Hell-Lord."
"You didn't stop me," Mephisto said coldly.
"You'll regret it."
"I'll pay the price?" Morin laughed.
"Even now, you're delusional."
"You still can't beat me."
"You're right," Mephisto said calmly.
"But you misunderstand."
"You're not fighting us."
"You're fighting Hell."
"All of it."
"I sacrifice Blackheart."
"The thousand souls."
"And myself."
"To open the gates of Hell!"
"Oh no," Morin said flatly.
"Hahaha!" Mephisto roared.
"Earth will burn!"
The gates opened.
Morin couldn't stop it.
But-
"It's a pity," Morin sighed.
"You're still stupid."
He raised his arm.
Pure white wings unfolded.
"Who said I had to handle this alone?"
Heaven's Gate-open.
The two gates collided.
"Perfect fit," Morin nodded.
Demons poured out.
And were immediately greeted.
"Hahaha!" the six-winged archangel laughed.
"Welcome!"
"I'll even give you a four-wing position!"
Silence.
All demon eyes turned to Mephisto.
Holy light burned.
Mephisto froze.
One thought echoed.
Where is Earth?
And-
Mom... I want to go home.
