----------------------------------------------------------
Emiya had to admit that Sword Princess Ais's fighting style was genuinely cool.
It was no wonder the elf girl Lefiya was so obsessed with her, turning herself into a devoted fan.
Ais treated the alligators on the lake like stepping stones, leaping left and right across the surface.
Each time she landed, her foot came down precisely on an alligator's head.
The alligators tried to fight back.
In front of Ais, they were as helpless as children.
Every jump was followed by a clean sword strike.
The alligator beneath her feet died instantly.
In just a short span of time, more than ten alligators were killed by Ais alone.
The remaining ones panicked.
They fled desperately into the lake, disappearing from her sight in an instant.
With no more footing beneath her, Ais was about to fall into the water.
Emiya released a psychic hand, caught her, and pulled her back.
"Thank you," Ais said quietly.
"You're welcome." Emiya waved his hand.
The psychic hand moved again, dragging the dead alligators out of the lake and onto the shore to keep their blood from polluting the water.
With the alligators gone, no one interfered with Aqua's purification anymore.
A few hours later, the lake was completely purified.
The group returned to the Adventurers' Guild in high spirits, submitted the quest, and received a reward of 300,000 Eris.
Since the quest was almost entirely completed by Aqua, she took 200,000 Eris for herself.
Of the remaining 100,000, 50,000 went to Ais.
The last 50,000 was evenly split between Emiya, Riveria, Kazuma, and Darkness.
No one objected to the distribution.
As for the alligators' bodies, Emiya brought them back as well and sold them to the Adventurers' Guild.
Although defeating them wasn't part of the quest, their meat was average at best.
Their skins, however, were valuable and could be made into equipment.
The Guild bought all ten-plus alligators for 30,000 Eris each.
They earned nearly 400,000 Eris in total.
That was worth even more than the purification quest itself.
Most of that money belonged to Ais, who had killed nearly all of them.
Emiya only took 50,000 Eris as a transportation fee.
Neither of the girls objected.
In the afternoon, the three returned to the villa.
As soon as they entered, they saw Aqua, Darkness, and Kazuma sprawled across the sofa, completely listless.
It looked like the effects of last night's drinking still hadn't worn off.
That surprised Emiya a little.
He could understand Kazuma and Darkness.
They were human.
But Aqua was a goddess.
Even if she was an idiot, she was still a genuine one.
"Aqua, aren't you recovered yet?" Emiya asked.
"Of course I'm fine," Aqua replied. "What do you think I am, just some god? I'm the Goddess of Water."
"Then why do you look like that?"
"I'm just hungry," Aqua said irritably. "Why didn't you make breakfast before leaving this morning?"
Her stomach rumbled loudly as she spoke.
Emiya fell silent.
He had left too early and completely forgotten about breakfast.
He quickly prepared lunch and some afternoon snacks.
Aqua immediately started devouring the food.
"You two should eat something as well," Emiya said, placing hamburger patties into Kazuma's and Darkness's hands.
Kazuma set his down and rubbed his temples.
"I can't. My head's spinning. I feel sick. I'm never drinking that much again."
Darkness nodded in agreement.
Even her terrifying defense couldn't block a hangover.
"What did you do today?" Aqua asked while shoveling egg mixed rice into her mouth.
"Why did you all disappear after we woke up?"
Emiya explained how the three of them went to defeat the griffon and the manticore.
"A griffon?" Kazuma's eyes widened. "Hey, isn't that a super dangerous monster?"
"You fought something like that? Were you hurt?"
For beginners like them, that kind of monster was completely out of reach.
"Relax," Emiya said calmly. "The quest was successful."
"Riveria and Ais defeated both the griffon and the manticore."
"...Defeated?" Kazuma froze. "You're serious?"
"I already told you," Emiya said. "Even though they're new adventurers, they were strong long before registering."
"Beating a few monsters is nothing to them."
Ais nodded, backing up Emiya's words.
Aqua quietly pulled Emiya aside.
"Those two are so strong," she whispered. "Then why did they form a party with us?"
Emiya hesitated, then answered vaguely.
"Probably because everyone gets along?"
"That's impossible," Aqua said flatly.
Then her eyes lit up.
"I get it."
Emiya blinked. "You get what?"
Aqua leaned closer and whispered, "They're probably spies sent by the Demon King."
"They want to find out who I am and kill me so no one can stop him."
Emiya went silent.
What kind of thinking is that?
Spies from the Demon King?
"That's overthinking it," Emiya said. "No matter how you look at it, Riveria and Ais can't be Demon King spies."
"Do they look like they'd work for him?"
"You never know," Aqua said stubbornly.
"No," Emiya said firmly. "Think about it."
"You've called yourself a goddess in front of them multiple times."
"If they were really from the Demon King's army, you'd already be dead."
"Eh?!" Aqua panicked instantly and hid behind Emiya.
"I'm going to be killed! They're definitely going to kill me!"
"Calm down, Aqua."
Emiya chopped her lightly on the head.
"Ow!" Aqua teared up. "That hurts! Hitting a goddess will bring divine punishment!"
"I was just getting you to calm down," Emiya said. "You're imagining things."
"I can guarantee it. Riveria and Ais are absolutely not spies."
"Really?"
"Absolutely."
"...I see."
Aqua finally relaxed, puffing out her chest again with restored confidence.
"Then good job to you two for beating the griffon and manticore."
Riveria smiled wryly.
She knew Aqua's true identity from watching the anime.
Even if the goddess was foolish, offending her wasn't wise.
So she thanked her.
Ais followed suit and said thank you as well.
After that, she went to Darkness to ask about Crusader skill point allocation.
Darkness answered seriously, offering her best advice.
The small disturbance ended just like that.
But Emiya knew.
A much bigger problem was still waiting.
