They continued searching for other kobolds.
After all, there was more than one kobold group living on this hill.
Defeating them didn't give rewards, but it did give experience.
So Emiya's party kept going.
As for Megumin, who had already exhausted all her strength, she was left to Kazuma.
She was riding on his back, endlessly bragging about how powerful her Explosion magic was.
Emiya pretended not to hear any of it.
When they found a second kobold cave, the same disgusting stench greeted them.
Kobolds clearly had no concept of cleanliness.
"What now?" Kazuma asked. "The useless mage is already like this. Should we go back, buy some deodorizing potions, and come back later?"
"No need to go through all that trouble," Emiya said, waving his hand.
"Since no one wants to go in, let's make them come out."
He created several tear gas grenades, activated them, and tossed them into the cave.
The kobolds weren't human, but Emiya had deliberately enhanced the tear gas.
Before long, a group of kobolds rushed out, coughing violently.
Only then did Emiya get a clear look at them.
Their bodies were covered in scales ranging from dark brown to black.
They had small, pale horns, glowing eyes, and straight, rat-like tails.
"Let me handle this!"
Darkness roared and charged straight in.
No-more accurately, she slammed into them.
After Emiya's guidance, she had truly awakened.
Whether she could hit the enemy no longer mattered.
As long as she collided with them, it was enough.
Her body was tough enough to serve as a weapon.
No matter what kind of monster stood in front of her, she wouldn't retreat.
Monsters at this level weren't even capable of injuring her.
So, aside from Kazuma, who was busy taking care of Megumin, everyone else joined the fight.
The kobolds were wiped out quickly.
Even Aqua threw punches and took down several.
An Arch-Priestess was originally a top-tier profession, capable of both frontline combat and healing.
For example, Arch-Priestesses had a skill called God Blow.
While it wasn't very effective against giant toads, it was absolutely lethal against kobolds.
Against undead monsters, its effectiveness could reach two or even three times normal.
After confidently clearing several waves, the group finally left the hill in the afternoon and returned to the Adventurer's Guild in Axel.
By then, Riveria and Ais had also completed their quest and were already waiting there.
That evening, they held a welcome party to celebrate Megumin officially joining the party.
Just like last time, everyone drank and celebrated happily.
And just like last time, Darkness, Kazuma, and Aqua all got drunk.
The next day, the three of them were so hungover they couldn't even leave the mansion.
Megumin, being young, didn't drink alcohol and only had juice.
She ended up being the only one left to take care of the three miserable people.
It was on this day that Megumin truly became a member of Emiya's party.
Over the following days, Megumin worked together with everyone to build chemistry.
Every time she used her magic, Kazuma carried her back.
Riveria and Ais continued operating as a duo, hunting dangerous monsters around Axel.
Attack Bears. Hydras.
They defeated one after another.
The two quickly gained fame in the Axel Adventurer's Guild.
Wherever they went, they attracted attention.
Their reputation even spread to nearby cities.
Emiya's party, on the other hand, maintained a leisurely pace, focusing on smaller monsters.
Even so, Emiya quickly reached level 15 and accumulated a large amount of skill points.
During this period, he also made a special trip to the Food Wars world and sent Mana Nakiri and the supplies she prepared to the Hestia Familia.
One day, after finishing their adventure, the party gathered at the Adventurer's Guild.
Emiya suddenly spoke.
"Let's take a break from adventuring tomorrow."
"Huh?" Kazuma looked confused. "Why all of a sudden?"
"I have something to take care of," Emiya said. "And you've all been fighting monsters nonstop. You must be tired."
"Well, that's true," Kazuma admitted.
They went out every morning and came back every afternoon. It would be strange not to be tired.
"I can still handle it," Darkness said, flexing as if to show off.
Emiya stopped her.
"I'll be going out with Riveria and Ais tomorrow. I might be gone for a day or two."
"You've earned plenty these past few days. Go spend it."
"Riveria and Ais are going too?" Aqua looked at them suspiciously.
Riveria nodded.
"We have something to deal with back home. We'll return soon."
Kazuma thought for a moment, then raised his glass.
"Alright. Then I wish you a safe trip. This meal counts as a farewell."
"I second that," Darkness said, raising her glass as well.
Riveria and Ais exchanged glances and didn't object.
The atmosphere quickly became lively again.
Everyone chatted happily about how they'd spend their free day.
And then Kazuma, Darkness, and Aqua got drunk again.
The next morning, when Emiya brought Riveria and Ais back, the three were still hungover.
Only Megumin was functional, taking care of two humans and one goddess.
Emiya didn't bother commenting.
This time, Emiya brought Riveria and Ais back for a specific reason.
The Hestia Familia's restaurant, The Goddess's Feast, was opening.
He planned to attend the opening ceremony and bring Riveria and Ais back to meet Loki.
After arriving, the three returned to the Loki Familia's base, Twilight Mansion.
"Ais-tan!!"
Loki spotted them instantly and lunged at Ais with open arms.
She hugged her tightly and rubbed her face against hers.
Ais pushed her away without hesitation.
Unwilling to give up, Loki lunged again.
She was met with Ais's fist.
Ais never showed mercy to a goddess with the heart of an old man.
After being punched a few times, Loki finally calmed down.
Only then did Finn speak.
"Riveria, Ais, Emiya. Welcome back."
Emiya nodded.
"Thank you for everything these past few days," Riveria said.
"I'm back," Ais added.
Finn smiled.
"How were your gains?"
"I learned some very useful magic," Riveria replied. "It'll definitely help."
Finn was delighted.
"That's great. We're going on a large expedition in a few days. Your timing is perfect."
An expedition.
Emiya glanced at Loki.
If he remembered correctly, this expedition marked the beginning of the story.
After it ended, a Minotaur escaped.
That Minotaur would later appear before Bell Cranel and nearly kill him.
Ais would arrive at the last moment, defeat it, and Bell's story would truly begin.
Loki noticed Emiya's gaze and leaned closer, whispering.
"I already found the little rabbit a while ago."
Emiya froze.
"So it's really starting," he said quietly. "What did you do to him?"
"I introduced him to Freya," Loki replied with a grin. "She really likes him."
"This way, he won't threaten me anymore."
Emiya rolled his eyes.
The plot was starting, but it was already distorted.
Bell Cranel had joined the Freya Familia.
What would happen next was anyone's guess.
His connection with Ais should have been severed.
...Right?
Then Emiya suddenly thought of Megumin.
He hadn't gone looking for her, yet she still joined his party.
Emiya looked at Loki, patted her shoulder, and spoke calmly.
"That's not necessarily true. Some people's fates can't be cut so easily."
Loki's face went pale.
"Don't jinx me!"
"I'm not," Emiya said. "I'm just stating a fact."
He explained what happened with Megumin and finished simply.
"Some plot momentum is unreasonable."
Loki finally snapped.
"Aaaargh! I should've had someone secretly deal with that rabbit!"
"I don't care. Ais-tan is mine. Mine alone."
"No one gets to touch her."
