Clara, who had been standing quietly behind Damian the entire time, finally let out a deep breath. The moment he walked away, she stepped toward where Ava stood, pale and withdrawn.
"You can't just leave like this," Clara said gently. "If you needed anything, you could have waited until I got back to the house."
Ava almost scoffed.
Of course Clara would say that. Clara wasn't any different from Damian, she worked for him, followed his orders. If Ava had even breathed the idea of stepping outside, Clara would have reported it immediately. So what difference would waiting have made?
Ava didn't bother to answer. She simply turned and headed toward the stairs.
Clara sighed and followed right behind her. "Things have been hectic because of the wedding. You disappearing like that would obviously cause a problem," she continued as they climbed the stairs.
