Ava woke before the sun had fully risen, though she wasn't sure she'd actually slept at all. Her body felt heavy, her head foggy, her chest tight with the memory of last night's call.
The silence in the room immediately pressed against her ribs. She had tried countless times to call the number back, but it was to no avail. Her call was never answered. She had a wrenching feeling in her heart that it was Lily, and wherever she was, she needed her help, but how could she get to her? If Damian was truly involved, then he would have guessed it because he was standing behind her when she asked if it was Lily calling. Her head felt hot just thinking about everything. She wasn't sure what was what anymore, but what part Damian's role in all of this was. Did he simply know what happened at his gala and overlook it, or was he involved in any way? Why wouldn't he tell her?
