Damian remained standing where he was, his back to the windows, his hands braced against the edge of his desk. Vance's presence still lingered in the room like a stain that refused to fade.
He exhaled slowly through his nose, his jaw clenched.
Vance never did anything without a reason.
The door opened again but Damian didn't turn.
Maxwell stepped inside, already loosening his tie, his sharp eyes immediately taking in Damian's rigid posture. He shut the door behind him and leaned against it for a moment before speaking.
"He's gone," Maxwell said. "Security confirmed he left the building five minutes ago."
Damian finally straightened, turning to face him. His expression was calm on the surface, but Maxwell knew him too well to be fooled by that. There was a tightness around his eyes, a hardness in his gaze that hadn't been there earlier that morning.
Maxwell crossed the room. "Do know why he decided to show up out of nowhere sir?"
