Chapter 100Sonia's POV
The light air was cool against my face, but it did nothing to calm the storm inside me. My legs carried me down the street fast, like I could outrun what had just happened. Neon shop signs glowed, strangers laughed and chatted, and none of them knew me. None of them cared.
Good. That was what I needed, anonymity.
I walked block after block until my chest heaved and my head started to clear. Far enough, I told myself. Far enough to scream into the wind, let out all the humiliation, and disappear into the crowd.
But the hairs on the back of my neck prickled.
Someone was following me.
I slowed and the footsteps echoed mine, steady and unhurried.
I spun around.
And it was Mark.
Of all people.
I groaned. "What do you want?" My voice came out sharper than I meant.
He froze a few feet away, hands lifted slightly, like I was about to throw another tray of tea at him. "I just wanted to check on you."
