Chapter 45 - "Two Halves of a Tragedy"

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

"Holy crap!"

Lubbock's shout echoed through the base, practically shaking the ceiling.

"No freaking way— That's us! We actually made it onto the Hero Rankings!"

The green-haired boy's eyes were wide as saucers, his face a mix of shock, disbelief, and total confusion.

Not that anyone could blame him. They were assassins, after all.No matter the reason, their job was taking lives. That's nothing like the Demon Slayer Corps hunting demons to protect civilians. How the hell could assassins be called heroes?

"Now, now, calm down, Lubbock," Najenda said with a faint smile, her one visible eye gleaming under the dim light. "I get how you feel. But think of it this way — the world itself is acknowledging us. We should take pride in that."

"The world… thinks we're heroes?"Mine's voice wavered, her pink twin tails trembling slightly as tears welled up.

"Heroes…" Akame muttered blankly.Beside her, Sheele adjusted her glasses, equally stunned, her face soft with confusion.

"Hahaha! Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?"Bulat, the towering "big bro" with the pompadour, burst into laughter, slapping his knee.

"What about you, Tatsumi? How do you feel about this?"Leone grinned, hands on her hips, golden eyes twinkling.

"I think everyone's amazing!" Tatsumi said earnestly, his voice shaking with excitement.

After spending so many days fighting side by side, he'd long since dropped his old prejudice against Night Raid. Now, he felt like one of them.

"Alright, enough chit-chat," Najenda said, her tone snapping everyone back to business. "Getting ranked as heroes is nice and all, but it also paints a target on our backs. This base isn't safe anymore. Everyone, pack up — we're moving out."

The Empire's Side

Inside the imperial palace, a group of fat, trembling officials had gathered — all led by the infamously bloated minister, Honest.

"Minister Honest, wh-what do we do now?!"

"They exposed us! And we're the villains compared to those assassins!"

"Damn it, who's behind this ranking thing?! If I ever find out—"

"I'll make them regret ever being born!"

Their shouts filled the hall, dripping with rage and fear.

"Enough!" Honest bellowed, tearing into a hunk of meat with his greasy fingers, fury flashing in his piggish eyes."This is my empire. I won't let anyone destroy it. From this moment on — I want every unit mobilized. Hunt down Night Raid. Don't let those rats breathe another day!"

Western Battlefield — Foreign Tribes Front

"Well, well… looks like it's finally my turn,"Esdeath murmured, her blue eyes narrowing with cruel delight. Her stiletto heel pressed against the forehead of the slave prince kneeling before her.

"So, Najenda's little team of 'heroes,' huh? Sounds fun. I've always loved crushing people who call themselves heroes."

A sharp smile curved her lips. The Ice Queen's bloodlust was beautiful — and terrifying.

In the world of Akame ga Kill, darkness was stirring once again.

Meanwhile, on the Multiversal Livestream

The footage kept rolling — Night Raid's assassinations flashing across the light screen.Yes, the scenes were brutal and bloody…But every target was an unforgivable monster, scum of the empire. And the ones doing the killing? Gorgeous, deadly girls.Hard not to root for them.

Each of them wielded a powerful Teigu, and every fight was quick, efficient, and ruthlessly clean. No need to worry about casualties like in Demon Slayer.Across countless worlds, viewers were convinced this was going to be a satisfying, one-sided "badass girl power" story.Sure, there might be some close calls — but the guys would take the hits, and the girls would save the day.

Just like when Tatsumi was about to die fighting Zank the Beheader — only to be saved by the stoic, food-loving beauty Akame.

I mean, come on — they're cute, strong, and unstoppable. How could anything bad possibly happen?

That's when the unthinkable happened.

2:30 A.M.

Mine and Sheele were on a mission together when they ran into Seryu from the Imperial Guard — a fellow Teigu user.A deadly clash erupted in the moonlit streets.

Viewers everywhere leaned forward. For those who loved watching cute girls fight, this was peak entertainment.

"Even if the other girl's a Teigu user too, Night Raid's got two! Advantage: Sheele-chan!"Gintoki cheered from the Gintama world, silver hair glinting as he waved his wooden sword like a light stick.

A nerdy guy from another universe nodded furiously. "Yeah, yeah — she's got all the god-tier traits: glasses, long legs, maid vibes, total airhead energy. No way she loses!"

Kagura snorted. "Oi, Gin-chan, people who say stuff like that always jinx it, aru."

Meanwhile, in the Demon Slayer world, Mitsuri Kanroji gasped. "What is that thing?! It's like a giant dog — and it can regenerate?!"Her mind immediately went to the demons she fought.

Tanjiro frowned. "That's a biological Teigu — as long as the core isn't destroyed, it can keep regenerating. It's… bad news. I just hope nothing goes wrong."

"Relax!" someone from another world laughed. "Two Teigu users vs. one guard? Easy win!""Mine and Sheele are top-tier! No way they lose!""Sorry, Seryu, but we're all Team Sheele here!"

The multiverse watched, relaxed and confident.

At first, the fight went as expected. The biological Teigu, Hekatonkheires, put up a fight — but the girls handled it.Seryu was tough, but she wasn't on their level. She lost both arms, collapsing in defeat.

Victory seemed certain.

Then—Seryu screamed an order.Hekatonkheires went berserk.

Everything turned in an instant.

No one even had time to react.

As Mine was caught in the creature's grip, Sheele rushed in to save her—Only to be struck by a bullet.

Her body froze.She couldn't move.

And before anyone could even process what was happening—The monstrous Teigu opened its jaws wideand bit Sheele clean in half.

Silence.

Across the infinite worlds, everyone froze.

"…Huh?"

People who came for a fun, heartwarming "badass girl squad" story were staring at their screens, faces pale.

"Wha—what the hell did I just watch?!"

"This was supposed to be a healing series!"

"Damn it—this just broke my heart!!!"

The multiverse collectively screamed into the void.

"..."
