Act I: The Desperate Run
The countdown inside the cavern echoed like the ominous ticking of a doomsday clock.
"Warning. Self-destruction sequence activated. T-minus 60 seconds."
"We have to move! Now!" Kai roared. His voice cracked with heavy static as he hauled Rick onto his shoulder. Rick's entire body was violently trembling from over-exertion, and his once-brilliant silver shield was now marred by deep, jagged fractures.
"I can... I can still walk, Captain," Rick gritted his teeth, his vision blurring into darkness.
Roose snapped his silver pocket watch shut with a shaking hand. "Spatial coordinates changes are completely unstable! The entire cavern is collapsing! I can't trigger a long-distance swap. We have to run to the upper levels manually!"
Maria swept out from the shadows, carrying a semi-conscious Bobby on her shoulder. Bobby's magical purple eye was clamped tightly shut, blood trickling down his cheek from the severe backlash of overusing the Eagle's Domain.
"Kai! The exit is caving in!" Maria yelled, just as a massive boulder crashed directly in front of them, completely blocking out the light of the outside world.
"Rick, hold onto me! Roose, Maria, step into my shadow!" Kai's eyes flared with a desperate, electric-blue light. "Celestial Judgement—Short Burst!"
BOOM!
A blinding flash of lightning erupted from Kai's blade, instantly vaporizing the massive boulders into fine dust. Gathering the absolute last remnants of their energy, the five of them threw themselves through the gap just as the inner cavern collapsed into a black hole of cosmic dust.
Act II: Enter the Mysterious Entity
They tumbled out into the forbidden zone of the Monster Forest, gasping for breath and coughing up ash and blood. They had survived the explosion, but danger was still far from over. The twisted, obsidian trees stood around them in the dark like silent executioners.
"We... we made it..." Rick whispered as he lay flat on the ground, his silver shield finally dissolving into nothingness.
"Not yet," Kai said, his voice dropping into a dangerous whisper. He forced himself up, sword in hand, though the blade remained completely dark—his lightning energy was entirely spent. "Someone is here."
From the depths of the dense forest fog, a mysterious figure stepped forward.
It didn't look like a monster, nor did it wear the uniform of a human from the Military Academy. The entity was wrapped in a shifting, glitching cloak that seemed to absorb the very light around it. Its face was entirely hidden behind a geometric mask that constantly distorted its shape, emitting a low-frequency vibration that made their ears ring painfully.
"So, the little rats actually managed to crawl out of the trap," the Entity spoke. Its voice was horrific—it wasn't a human voice, nor was it a beast's growl. It sounded like multiple discordant frequencies overlapping all at once.
"Who the hell are you?" Kai demanded, stepping defensively in front of his injured comrades. "Did you orchestrate the Space Gate overload?"
The Entity offered no reply. It simply raised a single hand. The sheer amount of kinetic pressure releasing from its palm was catastrophic.
CRACK!
The ground beneath Kai's feet shattered violently. The spatial energy in the area instantly turned incredibly heavy, pinning Roose and Maria to the earth before they could even react.
"This power..." Roose gasped, blood pooling in his mouth as his positional magic screamed in terror. "He is not from this world... This isn't world-regulated mana! This energy belongs to another universe!"
"It doesn't matter where he's from," Maria growled, trying desperately to push herself up, but the gravity field was far too intense. "He's after the database."
The Entity's mask glitched into a menacing, blood-red hue. "The data drive in your possession... you were never meant to leave with it. Die in ignorance!"
Act III: The Hopeless Battle
The Entity moved. It didn't run or teleport; it simply glitched from one spot to another, appearing instantly right in front of Kai. A heavy fist cloaked in pitch-black cosmic energy slammed down.
"Rick! No!" Kai screamed, but Rick was already moving.
With the absolute last drop of his life force, Rick conjured a raw, unrefined wall of silver mana. "Aegis—Sacrifice!"
CRASH!
The Entity's fist smashed through the barrier as if it were mere paper. The devastating impact sent Rick flying into a thick tree trunk, his ribs snapping with a sickening crunch. He fell limp, completely unconscious.
"Rick!" Bobby forced his right eye open and, with trembling hands, raised his sniper rifle, firing a point-blank shot directly at the Entity's head.
The Entity didn't even bother to dodge. It casually caught the bullet between two fingers, the metal instantly melting into liquid. With a cruel flick of its wrist, a wave of dark force blasted Bobby and Maria backward. Maria's gale shroud shattered to pieces, and she collapsed right next to Bobby. Both of them were thrown into critical condition, hovering at the very brink of death.
Kai was the only one left standing. His muscles tore under the immense pressure, but he refused to fall. "You... bastard!"
Forcing his battered body forward, he swung his sword in a heavy slash. The Entity casually blocked the incoming blade with its bare forearm.
CLANG!
"Impressive willpower, Captain Kai," the Entity mocked, its overlapping voice buzzing painfully inside Kai's brain. "But your squad is already dead."
Kai gritted his teeth, blood dripping from his forehead into his eyes. "Not as long as I am breathing! Team Kai never backs down!"
Act IV: The Approaching Shadows
Right then, the thunderous roar of heavy rotary blades cut through the stormy sky.
THUD-THUD-THUD-THUD!
High-speed military stealth choppers broke through the thick cloud layer. Captain Jane's Elite Backup Squad had arrived, their long-range scanners picking up the massive energy anomaly in Sector 4.
"Captain Jane! We have high-energy readings ahead! It's not just the Space Gate—there is an unknown combatant actively engaging Team Kai!" the comms officer shouted inside the chopper.
"Drop us down! Now! Don't let those kids die!" Jane roared, slamming a fresh cell into her heavy plasma rifle.
Down on the ground, the Entity ceased its attack on Kai. Its geometric mask glitched rapidly, turning toward the sky. "Military flies. They noticed the shift much earlier than expected."
The Entity looked down at Kai, who was now kneeling, using his sword to prop his breaking body up. The data drive was glowing faintly inside Kai's pocket.
"I cannot leave any traces behind. The Elders demand absolute secrecy," the Entity muttered. It raised both hands, gathering a massive, unstable sphere of black cosmic energy. It intended to wipe out the entire sector, along with Team Kai, leaving absolutely nothing for the military to investigate.
"This is the END," the Entity said, aiming the sphere directly at the center of the fallen team.
Kai looked back at Rick, Maria, and Bobby. Their lifelines were fading dangerously fast on his wrist communicator. 'If I don't block this... they won't even leave a corpse,' Kai thought. He prepared to overload his own core to force one last, desperate Celestial Judgement.
Act V: The Fog of Escape
Just as the Entity was about to unleash the catastrophic attack—
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Heavy plasma artillery rounds rained down from the heavens, exploding all around the Entity. The Elite Backup Squad's choppers hovered just above the tree line, blinding the area with powerful searchlights.
"Step away from the cadets!" Captain Jane's voice boomed through the megaphone as elite soldiers began rappelling down ropes, their weapons locked onto the mysterious figure.
The Entity hissed, its dark energy sphere dissipating under the sudden heavy suppression fire from the military. It realized that if it stayed to fight the elite squad, its identity and power signatures would be fully exposed and analyzed by the military database.
"Annoying interference," the Entity growled.
Before the soldiers could even touch the ground, the Entity slammed its foot violently into the earth.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: OBSIDIAN ECLIPSE]
Instantly, a massive, impenetrable wall of pure black smoke erupted from the ground. It wasn't ordinary smoke; it completely jammed all military thermal scanners, night vision, and magical perception. The world turned pitch black.
"Hold fire! We lost visual! Scanners are totally glitched!" the soldiers yelled in panic inside the blinding smoke screen.
Deep within the black fog, the Entity stood before the stone wall. With a swift swipe of its hand, a small, dark teleportation portal tore open in the air—the gateway back to its own world.
It looked at the dark forest one last time, ensuring that the heavy residual cosmic energy it used was completely burning away, erasing every digital and magical footprint. "Enjoy your remaining days, Team Kai. Next time, there will be no rescue."
With a silent step, the Entity entered the portal, and the rift snapped shut behind it. Not a single trace remained.
Epilogue: At Death's Door
A few seconds later, the black smoke began to dissolve into the wind.
Captain Jane and her team rushed forward through the clearing, their heavy boots splashing in the mud. When the searchlights finally illuminated the ground, even the battle-hardened Captain Jane gasped in horror.
"Medics! Get the trauma pods down here right now!" Jane screamed into her comms.
The scene was devastating.
Rick lay completely motionless against a shattered tree, his breathing so shallow that his chest barely moved. Bobby's magical eye was bleeding heavily, his pulse dropping straight into the critical zone. Maria's limbs were bent at unnatural angles, her body entirely unresponsive. All three of them were quite literally standing at death's door, their life force flickering out like dying candles.
A completely exhausted Kai was the only one semi-conscious, sitting on his knees, his hands tightly gripping his sword. His uniform was torn to shreds, his body heavily wounded and covered in blood, but his eyes were wide open, staring blankly at the exact spot where the Entity had vanished.
"Captain Jane..." Kai rasped, his voice cracking as blood spilled over his lips. "The... the enemy... it wasn't a monster..."
Before he could finish his sentence, his vision went entirely black, and he collapsed onto the cold ground.
