Evangeline only stopped running when her lungs began to burn. She stumbled into the nearest room from the dark passage and pressed her back against the door, exhaling in trembling relief. The sound of her pulse filled her ears. She didn't dare to look behind her as she ran earlier. She feared that if she did, even for just a second, Adrian's face would be there, cruelly smiling at her again, cutting their distance and perhaps would do worse than simply,y holding her wrist until it bruise.
She could feel her wrist still throbbing from where Adrian's fingers had gripped her days ago. The memory of his malicious smile and that deafening yell was enough to make her skin crawl. No more. That was it, their last meeting was the last time. She didn't want to see Adrian at all, not tonight!
