My heart was pounding, aching, as I stared at the man in front of me.
The man I had learned to trust again after all the lies.
My husband.
"Answer me, Dominic!" I demanded, my voice cracking.
He only stared at me, his face twisted with rage, before storming toward me. As he reached for the paper, I moved out of his path, clutching it to my chest like a lifeline.
I scoffed, disbelief flooding me at his reaction, at his silence. "You knew. You knew all this time who my father was and still lied straight to my face. I should have listened to Felicity!"
"Hand that over, Harper," he said, his voice disturbingly calm despite the fury blazing in his eyes.
"Not until you tell me exactly what is going on!"
"Well, I am not obligated to explain anything to you!" he shouted.
The words cut straight through me. I winced as if struck, my body trembling. I hadn't even realized I was crying until I tasted salt on my lips.
