William shot me a look before glancing over his shoulder to make sure no one was within earshot.
"Don't tell me it's him," he muttered.
"It's him," I confirmed.
"That piece of shit," he growled, his hands curling into fists. "What the fuck does he want with a child?"
Me. He wanted me. That bastard.
How could he take a child who wasn't even mine and use her to torment her mother? His own daughter. How could he be that heartless?
No. He had always been that heartless.
It should not have surprised me. And yet it did. The rage clouded my thoughts, made it hard to think straight.
"He tried to kill three children who aren't even five," William continued, jaw tight. "He deserves to rot in prison."
I scoffed. Men like him never rotted anywhere for long. He would manipulate the system, frame someone else, twist the narrative until he walked free.
Just like before.
