I pulled the handgun from the safe, along with the bullets neatly stacked at the back of my wardrobe.
I slid the magazine in, checked the chamber, then tucked the gun into the inside pocket of my jacket. The remaining bullets went into my pants pocket. I adjusted the jacket, making sure nothing showed.
There was no way I was going to Rafael's house without protection. I had no idea what he had planned, and I wasn't interested in guessing.
That man was evil, and he never pretended otherwise.
I stepped back into the living room and nearly collided with Mila. She jumped back just in time.
"Daddy!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around me.
I patted her back slowly before she pulled away.
When I came in earlier, only Jason had been in the living room. He told me Mila was asleep. I had not checked on her. I did not want to wake her, and if she had been awake, I was not sure I had the patience to answer the flood of questions she would throw at me.
