Silence settled between us as soon as she finished speaking.
I stared down at her, startled, wondering where she had gotten that idea. She looked completely serious, certain of what she was asking.
"You are my father, aren't you?" she repeated, barely blinking away from me.
Had Harper said something to make her doubt? No. More likely, she had overheard her parents talking about me.
Surely, Julian must have said some nasty things she had picked up. I wouldn't even be surprised at this point.
And if she were mine, I still did not believe Harper would keep that from me. She would never dare to give my child to Julian just because she was mad at me.
I crouched in front of her, a faint smile touching my lips. "Are you okay?" I asked, my gaze scanning her small frame.
I saw no injuries. She looked unharmed. Thank goodness that he hadn't touched her.
