"It was truly foolish of you people to try fighting awakened people like me." David spoke in a condescending tone as he dropped the unconscious body of the last of the unawakened.
In front of him, the nameless girl was dominating the fight against the Tier I individual as both of them channeled water and fire respectively.
Suddenly David turned around as he heard the thudding beats of boots that were approaching their direction.
In the far distance, a flicker of flame illuminated the near covering darkness of the night. David realised that he didn't have much time.
'I guess I need to interfere.' With muffled steps, he approached the Tier I man from behind.
The man was projecting a javelin made from burning flames. But before he could launch it at the nameless girl, David struck his neck as the man suddenly lost consciousness and fell on the ground with a slight thud.
David quickly sidestepped as a torrent of water passed by him, drenching the ground acompanied by a squelching sound.
"Now, now calm down. We already won." He patted the girl's head as she looked at him with a blank face.
"Do not." She said firmly but didn't make any efforts to move away his hand. David giggled seeing that and increased his hand's pace as he ruffled her hairs.
Sadly enough, the flaming torches were coming near them.
"Who goes there? Stop!" A patrolling soldier raised his torch as he tried to peer into the darkness.
David came in front of the nameless girl, blocking her from view. In a manner of urgency, he muttered. "Run as fast as possible. And try hiding in some narrow alley. I shall find you soon enough."
The girl glanced at him once as she nodded. In the next moment, she sprinted and tried putting a distance between her and the soldiers.
Through his activated Vision, David was able to see the two soldiers in front of him.
'Yeah fine enough.' He smirked inwardly. He wasn't planning to run away from the moment he saw the two unawakened patrols approaching them.
"Now where are you going?" He covered his face with one of his hands, making sure they wouldn't recognise him by a single glance anywhere else and grabbed one of the soldier by the shoulder, pulling him backwards.
"You shouldn't be chasing everything that you see moving at night." He whispered in an eerie tone, as he stopped the soldier who was trying to run after the nameless girl.
David's eyes glowed with an incandescent pale yellow light as a creepy smile caressed his lips.

The next morning, the market and the streets were abuzz with people as all they talked something in hushed whispers, which eventually made it into a cacophony of noises.
"Did you hear that as well?! Oh for Lord of the Light's sake, I swear I almost pissed myself from that scream last night. My wife was literally sobbing from the thought that somebody might break through our door and kill us all."
Someone gasped loudly as he exclaimed, "Oh you too! I really thought that the Koyta Gang had come to loot us all. Did you feel the strange suppression in the air? It was terrifying!"
A Tier I man who was listening to the group sighed. "Ahh... that's what unawakened people feel when a lot of mana is being used at a single place. There is a reason why higher ranked persons avoid fighting in the physical world."
Someone else joined in as well. "But is it really true that eight members of the Koyta Gang were killed? Man, those two soldiers really had some courage if that's true."
To which the awakened replied, "Yeah heard the same, man. Those two patrols killed eight of them while the ninth member of the group who happened to be an awakened is said to have fled the scene after beating them. I guess a promotion is coming up the way of the two soldiers. Haha, lucky bastards."
David who was sitting with the nameless girl at a nearby bench smiled as he heard those words. He stared in front of him, at the system screen hovering in his vision.

Yes, he had killed all nine of those members. Last night, after Z2 - the nameless girl - had run away, he had struck down the two soldiers.
After that, taking their spears he had stabbed all the eight members of the gang with the exception of their leader.
Then he had dragged the leader, intentionally leaving blood marks to convince people that the leader of the group had been injured by the patreolling soldiers. Later he carried him to a vast field and dug up his grave.
After having done that, he buried him in it but not before killing him as well.
'And honestly does it really matter who killed those criminals as long as they are dead? I would say definitely no.' He nodded to himself, trying to justify his act.
The nameless girl sitting beside him and hearimg the news muttered in a low tone, "You did it?"
"Yes." He answered, not bothering to hide it from her.
Suddenly the girl sighed as she spoke slowly, trying her best to form a proper sentence. "You... awakened? So...you kill them...for...soul fragments?"
David appeared pleasantly surprised as he heard her words. And it was just as he had expected. He wasn't anything special and was just receiving the same powers the others would.
"How many soul fragments do you have?" If he had to say, he felt she was a little stronger than him.
Her speed and agility were decently better than him and after watching yesterday's fight, he could safely say she would beat him even in a contest of strength.
She focussed in front of her - most probably checking her stats, as she replied. "Two...five....four."
"Wait a minute...you don't know any numbers above nine?"
