"Doctor Ken was in town just in time. They were able to stabilise him," Perry says over the phone, and I let out a breath I did not realize I was holding.
He cannot die now. He is not allowed to, not after we have barely begun to settle our differences. I think I just keep prolonging the inevitable confrontation, but I know I do not have much time left to avoid it forever. I can only wonder what triggered the heart attack, but I refuse to care. I am only doing this out of the hollow obligation that he is my father, not because I am genuinely concerned for his well-being.
