Chapter 18 - The Warning

After some days, at Kim Enterprises.

The office door opened with a loud thud. Seo-Yeon entered abruptly and smashed a sack of printouts and investigation reports on Jeon-Woo's face.

"What the hell is this?" she shouted.

Jeon-Woo brushed off a paper from his lap and looked at it. "What is this, now?"

Seo-Yeon slammed her hands on the table, making him look at her.

"You told me that you were just covering things for project reputation. Then what's with the closing case?" she said in a cold voice.

Jeon-Woo didn't blink. "It's best for the project and our companies," he replied in a calm tone.

Seo-Yeon twitched. "By pulling strings, using connections." She let out a sharp, breathless laugh of utter disbelief. "He served you for years."

Jeon-Woo crumbled the paper. " Employees are replaceable. He gets paid for it, and I already have a new one." his voice was neutral; he didn't care a bit.

Seo-Yeon's hand veins popped up as she clutched.

"Unbelievable...How can you treat a human as broken equipment in your office? What about his family's suffering? Their pain," Her voice rose with every single word.

Jeon-Woo slowly stood up, placing his hands on the table, and leaned forward.

"I won't let his damn ghost drag our project into the grave."

"Our?" She scoffed, "Then I will save my project with justice, not by cheating. I'm gonna drag out the truth, no matter how powerful the opponent is."

Seo-Yeon furiously spun on her heel, about to stroll out.

"Don't you dare!" Jeon-Woo growled and stepped forward to grab her wrist.

But as his skin touched hers.

Smack!

A harsh slap landed on his left cheek, echoing through the room. Silence. For a moment, everything stopped.

Both of them were stunned. It's been years since she slapped someone, and he had never been slapped in his whole life.

His eyes turned glacial, predatory. Like a tiger deciding whether to strike. His fist tightened. The room felt tight with the dark aura of him.

His eyes made Seo-Yeon stumble. Her heartbeat dropped, hands shivering. As Jeon-Woo took a heavy step forward, she abruptly opened a drawer and grabbed a small bottle.

Before Jeon-Woo could hold her hand, she stormed out. Scattering things messily behind. As Seo-Yeon disappeared beyond the door, Jeon-Woo clenched his jaw.

Every passing moment only made me want you to know more...

While Kim Enterprise was drowning in conflict, life outside continued moving forward. In the past few days, Suzy sneaked into Jae Min's cabin. Even though she didn't find anything special, she kept looking for a clue.

Jihoon was busy with some clients, so he asked Suzy to pick up the little boy from school. Suzy brought some toys for him. But every time they gave him a gift, he just asked,

"When will my father come back?"

They just consoled him, knowing they don't have an answer themselves. He adjusted with both of them in a very short time.

She entered Jihoon's apartment holding the little boy in her arms.

"Here we are back home," she said with a smile and put him down.

He ran towards the kitchen. Suzy followed him. He was hugging Jihoon, who was in a red apron, ruffling the kid's hair.

"When you came back?" Suzy asked, placing a file at the counter.

Jihoon straightened up. "Not long ago. Did he trouble you?" he turned back to chopping vegetables.

"Not at all." She replied while sipping some water. "Nice choice!" she pointed at the apron and chuckled. Jihoon rolled up his eyes, "Whatever!"

The little boy went to his room. "He seems to like you a lot. Why don't you adopt him?" Suzy said, anxiously.

Jihoon's hand stopped for a moment. Then he sighed and laughed, "So now you're teasing me for being impotent?"

Suzy shook his head as 'no'. "What if Manager Dong never comes back?... he's so young for being an orphan," Suzy said in a low tone.

Jihoon placed a plate in front of her. He sensed her anxiety.

"First, being an orphan never comes with age. Second, He has his mom. Women are strong in this era. Now, eat ." He patted her head gently.

Noon passed with chit-chat. Ji Min was in the parking lot of Park Tech. She felt like someone was following her. She turned, but there was no one. She shrugged off and strode towards her BMW. She was about to get in, but someone placed a hand on her shoulder. Ji Min shut her eyes tightly and pushed him with full force.

"Ahhh!" Yoo Han gasped on the ground.

Ji Min opened her eyes, widened, and helped him to get up.

"I'm sorry... I'm really sorry," she panicked, "I thought..." she paused.

Yoo Han gently grabbed her hand, "Is someone bothering you?" he asked, eyes fixed on Ji Min's face. She hesitated and looked down,

"No... It's nothin'," before she could complete, a bike stopped near them. The biker threw a balloon towards Ji Min.

Splash!

"Ah!" Ji Min shouted. Her coat sleeves burned. It was acid. But as she looked up, her breath hitched.

A moment ago, Yoo Han saw the biker was about to throw something. He pulled Ji Min in a hug and turned, using his body as a shield.

Yoo Han's jacket was covered in acid. He could sense his skin burning. He bent down a little.

"Yoo Han," Ji Min panicked.

She abruptly tore away his jacket. Yoo Han tried to stop her, but all she cared about was Yoo Han. The acid had a high concentration. Ji Min's hands burned while removing Yoo Han's shirt.

Even if it was just for seconds, Yoo Han's skin got red and burned. His unease could be seen on his face.

Ji Min grabbed water bottles from the car and splashed it on Yoo Han.

"Are you feeling better?" she asked in a worried tone. He just nodded in pain, trying to catch his breath.

Ji Min's eyes got blurry. Her skin was peeling off.

On the other hand, Suzy was about to leave Jihoon's apartment, but her folder fell on the ground. Papers scattered on the ground.

Jihoon helped her to pick it up when an invitation letter grabbed his attention.

"Myth and mystery..." he mumbled.
