Chapter 34 - A Spiritual World

I took aim and fired my laser. A line of molten metal appeared in a copter as it slammed into the stadium after a drone destroying death spiral. More missiles and bullets slammed into me in response as I began emptying my HMG. A missile streaked through the dust clouds and detonated on a leg joint. The joint held, but I staggered. Another missile hit my back and slammed me into the dirt.

I hadn't even spent a year at Hogwarts but I had learned a massive amount about enchanting and runes. Despite my enchanting skill my mech wasn't immune to the attacks I was taking. I I stood back up an rpg hit the same leg joint a missile had hit. This time the joint was actually damaged and I was forced to rely on the backup hydraulics of the leg. I quickly misted the guy that'd shot me and refocused on the copters. The next copter dropped as I separated his blades from the body. It didn't take down any drones with it but my missile made up for that. Most missiles didn't get close to the enemy as the rain of bullets destroyed them, however some survived to detonate on drones.

As I aimed for another copter a large part of the swarm shifted and charged the heli. The slammed into it to little effect but one caught a missile pod and the swarm and copter disappeared in flame and shrapnel. The last copter was shot down by V and Reed as they were no longer busy mowing down barghest soldiers. Suddenly my damaged leg disappeared from under me and I hit the dirt.

I looked up into the stands to find a small army and multiple familiar borgs glaring at me. The Smasher in the middle of the group held a large shitty looking plasma cannon. A thought shifted my laser to a wide range, high power blast and I took a chunk out of the stadiums stands. Only one smasher survived via his sandy and he shot at me, his baleful red eyes practically glowing with anger.

I activated my own savitar sandevistan and blasted at him with my HMG while annihilating his surroundings with missiles. Despite my attacks he slammed into my mech and started attacking with a knife I recognized to be something I'd made. I was a triangle vibroblade dagger of beskar, covered in runes that would theoretically allow it to pierce anything.

I was talented with weapons creation and this one obviously worked as it punched through my mech with disdainful ease. I single shot from my cannon tore off his left arm as I kicked and rolled my mech. The fake smasher was smashed under my mech and I grabbed the leg that had been shot off. I grabbed a chunk of steel and put it inbetween the severed leg and its previous attachment point. A blast of weak plasma flash welded the leg back together and I began hobbling out of the stadium. Reed and V found their way onto my back from a hanging stadium support and rode to base atop my mech.

Two weeks passed and I could feel the transition coming. I ran diagnostics on myself and my tech then connected myself to them. I didn't change much beyond reinforcing my mech and its armor. I'd increased my supplies to multiple years of anything I could store besides bullets. I'd created forges for ammunition and stored 30 tons of everything I'd need to produce the munitions.

I had notified everyone I knew and trusted that I'd be leaving. I made my way past the badlands and into the vast desert. Inbetween steps is stumbled and was met by a massive forest sprawling around me. I extended my legs as far as I could and found a large mountain range as the only land mark. My sensors detected unnatural rock structures on one of the taller parts of the mountains.

Three days later I found nearing the foot of the mountains when I detected a battle between people throwing fire and climbing the slopes with strange tanks, and people flying above them on air currents via gliders. The airborne defenders circled a large eastern temple made of the mountains stone, every one of them dropping bags of chemical compounds onto the attackers.

I watched till a small red air balloon circled from behind the mountain. It dropped four massive bags of the unidentified compound them dumped its own engine into a ravine. As the balloon went down a figure on a red glider shot down and carried the to balloon users to safety. I finally realized what world I was in when I caught sight of the balloons emblem. The red balloon with a black flame symbol and the figure on a red glider. The stone temple high in the snowy mountains. Men throwing fire and climbing the mountain with tanks that belied the technological era.

Avatar: The last Airbender. I recognized this world from my early childhood. Aang, Sokka, Katara, Toph, Zuko, Iroh and many others flashed through my mind. The entirety of ATLA played through my mind in less than five seconds. I was pulled from my mind as the mountainside exploded. A minute later the fire nation forces retreated. I exited my entombment and climbed out of my mech.

A flick of magic and the mech shrunk and I stuffed it into my pocket. I'd spent a week, awake 24/7 working on an enchantment to shrink my mech like Hank pym did with stuff in the antman movies. My three meter tall person inside my four meter tall armor strode through the forest, navigating the underbrush as if it didn't exist. I climbed the mountain like I'd been doing my entire life.

As I reached the edge of the temple where gliders set off my glowing red visor met the the end of a wooden staff. A metal boomerang bounced off my golden faceplate as a tentacle of water wrapped around my arm. I finished climbing up despite the water trying to slow me. I bent and grabbed the boomerang and carefully tossed it back to its owner. I flick of my arm splashed the water off of me and I took a step forward, causing Aang to slide back while holding his staff to mh chest.

I looked at the boy, then I looked deeper. Dumbledore had taught me how to look at magic but I'd never gotten anywhere close to good with it. However, despite my lackluster ability with magic sight I could see the power of order sealed within him. My gaze seemed to unsettle him as he and his friends prepared to attempt. I looked around us as I was slowly surrounded by makeshift spears and the 'weapons' of the group.

I slowly raised my hands and looked back at Aang. As he went to speak I took my own initiative. "Greetings Avatar. I am Ellery. I am a traveler simply trying to survive in these harsh times. I ask that you take me with you to fight the fire nation. I assure you that all I ask for is transport. I can pay you for such in many different ways."

When I finished talking the three of them simply gaped at me. After a few seconds Sokka shook his head and asked "What can you pay and why would we even trust you?"

"I have no way to prove that I can be trusted. I can pay with knowledge, teaching, and multiple other skills that I hold." I responded. Sokka was stunned by my answer. Katara resumed her glare and tightened her grip on the cork of her water bag. Aang simply tilted his head in curiosity. The Gaang huddled to discuss something as the people here surrounded me. I caught sight of the crippled boy Teo. I walked past the spears and other weapons right up to the boy. I deactivated the locks on my faceplate and looked down at him.

My glowing gold eyes scanned him down to his cellular structure. Multiple fractures in his lower spine and massive nerve damage. Fixing the damage would be easy with some of my tech. Just grow some new nerves from samples and replace the damage then fix the damaged bone. A simple exoskeletal structure would help him walk while allowing his atrophy to heal.

"You child, are crippled, damaged. I can fix the damage. The flesh is weak, but steel is strong. Steel however is without spirit, non-living. A fusion of flesh and steel. You will no longer be weak."
