Chapter 148: Evil Momo
"Uh…"
After reading through Momo's basic information, Franklin felt a headache coming on. The problem he was facing now wasn't just whether he was Momo's fated partner — it was something far trickier.
What in the world was that talent of hers? And the description of her mental cultivation… every line practically screamed that Momo had a second personality.
Asking her directly didn't seem appropriate. Watching Momo's expectant expression, Franklin scratched his head awkwardly.
"What's wrong, Mr. Franklin? Still can't bring yourself to do it?"
Seeing Momo's slightly furrowed brow, Franklin hesitated for a moment before lightly waving his hand.
"It's just… I saw some unbelievable things, and it's a bit hard to process all at once. How about this — let's make a bet, Momo. We'll use your tail as the wager."
"Unbelievable things? A bet?" Momo blinked. "What exactly are we betting on?"
Franklin's gaze turned serious. "We'll bet on whether I'm truly your destined one. If I am, then I want to meet the real you — no, the complete you. Of course, if I'm not, you can name something else for me to do in return."
Momo stared at him in surprise, silent for a long time.
"Mr. Franklin, those eyes of yours really are incredible. Nothing escapes them. Fine, we'll use that as the wager. If you truly aren't the one, then what I hope for is this — that you'll let go of your preconceptions and accept me as one of your girlfriends."
Franklin's pupils widened. He hadn't expected Momo to be this determined.
Lala, who had been sitting quietly to the side, was completely dumbfounded. She stood up and stepped between them.
"Lin, what are you even saying? Momo is Momo! Are you telling me the Momo standing here is somehow fake?"
Franklin sighed and waved a hand helplessly. "Not exactly. I'm not entirely sure myself. But since there's a wager, let's just see. If I really am her destined one, then it's fate. If not, we'll drop it. Momo's personal secrets are her own — everyone's entitled to a few."
Though still confused, Lala could only move aside, giving the two some space.
Looking at Momo's slender black tail presented before him, Franklin hesitated briefly, then gently took hold of it.
Momo, thinking she was fully prepared, was caught completely off guard. The instant Franklin's hand touched her tail, a jolt like electricity shot straight through her mind. Her legs went weak, her body trembling as a wave of numbness spread through her.
Before she could collapse, Franklin quickly caught her and laid her gently on the nearby sofa.
Seeing Lala's odd expression, Franklin raised his hands defensively. "She's way more sensitive than you are. I just touched her tail lightly, and she immediately— well, you saw."
Lala shook her head slightly, concern written across her face as she looked at Momo.
"That's not what I meant," she said. "I'm worried about something else. Lin, what did you mean by the complete Momo?"
Franklin opened his mouth to explain, but before he could speak, Momo — her cheeks flushed — pushed herself upright.
"Royal Sister, I'm fine. Mr. Franklin just misunderstood me a little. I only said that earlier to get him to agree faster."
Lala eyed her suspiciously. "Really? I'm your sister — you can tell me anything, you know."
Momo smiled sweetly. "If I don't explain, you'll just keep worrying, won't you? Actually, what Mr. Franklin said wasn't entirely wrong. I do have another side to me — just a slightly more… scheming one. Nana knows about it.
I've always acted like a well-behaved girl in front of you, but my true personality is kind of the opposite. I think Mr. Franklin must have noticed that, which is why he wanted to see the real me."
Lala still looked uncertain, but after glancing at Franklin's "oh, I see" expression and Momo's sincere eyes, she finally relaxed again.
"I knew it! Momo's always Momo — how could she be fake? Lin, next time be clearer. You scared me half to death."
Franklin chuckled, rubbing his head. "I guess it was a misunderstanding. If Momo hadn't explained, I'd still be confused myself."
Bulma, who had been quietly observing from the sidelines, was speechless. Seriously? That was the most blatant bluff I've ever seen. And the worst part — Lala actually bought it.
"Everyone, lunch is ready!" came Mikan's voice from outside.
Bulma stood up right away, clearly done with the drama. "Don't just stand there, Franklin. You, Lala, and Momo should go eat. Whatever this is — deal with it later tonight."
"I'll go wake Nana and change clothes while I'm at it," Momo said.
"Yeah, I'll change too. Franklin, Lala, you go on ahead."
As Momo and Bulma both headed upstairs, Franklin followed shortly after.
"Lala, go ahead first," he said. "I need to change too. My clothes got dirty after the fight with Eve this morning."
Seeing Lala's innocent smile made Franklin want to slap himself — if Momo hadn't tugged at his hand, he wouldn't have needed to make up so many excuses.
After changing, Franklin went straight to Lala's room, where Momo and Bulma were already seated together. He joined them.
"Let's make this quick," he said. "Lala's waiting downstairs."
Momo nodded, thinking for a moment before explaining.
"What I said downstairs wasn't wrong. I really am me — but I can somewhat control my emotional state. It's not exactly emotion, though… it's hard to explain. I can make myself completely cold and indifferent — truly emotionless, as if nothing matters."
Remembering Momo's innate talent Evil, Franklin nodded knowingly.
"I understand now. Without seeing the name, it'd be hard to figure out. Your ability really is just what it sounds like — Evil. It can be incredibly useful in certain situations — war, combat, anything that requires decisiveness. But in everyday life, it's better not to rely on it."
Momo's eyes lit up. "So that's it! When you put it that way, it makes perfect sense. Still, the name sounds kind of unpleasant."
"Names don't matter," Franklin said, his tone softening. "What worries me is your condition. The record mentioned something about dual souls and good and evil within one body. I was really concerned about that.
If it's just this, that's a relief. But still — don't use that ability too often. Otherwise, it could really turn into a split personality."
