After the two siblings spent precious warm moments together—embracing, whispering affection, reestablishing connection that six months' separation had strained—Charlotte Hikaru finally revealed the actual purpose necessitating this visit. The originally gentle older sister's demeanor transformed dramatically, her soft features hardening into serious expression that conveyed absolute gravity regarding what would happen next.
This wasn't playful family visit. This was strategic operation with catastrophic failure potential.
"Brother Katakuri has been seriously injured," Charlotte Hikaru stated with blunt directness that left no room for misunderstanding. "I want using your strength to heal him completely—restore everything exactly as it was before Admiral Kisame's attack. The extended family of Totto Land absolutely cannot lose him. His death or permanent disability would signal vulnerability that our enemies would exploit immediately."
The five-year-old's voice carried weight that shouldn't belong to kindergarten-aged child—clinical assessment of strategic necessity, calculated risk evaluation, acceptance of potential costs. She wasn't asking her brother for favor. She was informing him of decision already made, seeking his cooperation rather than permission.
Charlotte Hikaru had finally revealed this trip's true purpose to her imprisoned twin brother, and everyone concealed in the monitoring room several levels above felt cold sweat breaking out across their bodies simultaneously.
The assembled Charlotte siblings—Perospero, Smoothie, Oven, Daifuku, dozens of others crowded around surveillance screens—understood with crystalline clarity that once Alluka accepted the wish request, no method existed for withdrawing it. The process would proceed inevitably toward completion or catastrophic failure, with zero possibility for abort protocols or emergency cancellations.
What price reality would demand for fulfilling such ambitious wish—completely healing Charlotte Katakuri's mutilated body, regenerating severed limbs, restoring him to peak combat condition—all that would be decided by an innocent child barely five years old who lacked adult comprehension of mortality's permanent nature or suffering's profound depths.
Since the Big Mom Pirates learned that Charlotte Alluka had accidentally consumed a Devil Fruit—since that catastrophic day when unsupervised child mistook supernatural artifact for candy—they'd attempted countless experimental methodologies trying to understand his abilities' parameters and limitations.
Those experiments killed countless lives before they finally comprehended the genuine horror of the wish-granting power possessed by Charlotte Linlin's youngest son. The learning curve proved steep, measured in corpses and traumatized survivors whose sanity never fully recovered from witnessing reality's casual violation.
The mechanics they'd painfully discovered operated according to specific rules that couldn't be circumvented through cleverness or exploited through loopholes:
RULE ONE - THE THREE REQUESTS:
If a person makes a wish to Charlotte Alluka, they must agree to the boy's three subsequent requests before the Nega Nega no Mi will grant their desired outcome. The Devil Fruit operated on principle of escalating compliance—demonstrating willingness to obey increasingly demanding commands before receiving reward.
The magnitude of requests directly correlated with the wish's scope and ambition. The bigger the wish, the more extreme things Alluka would ask for. The two variables demonstrated positive mathematical correlation—requesting minor healing might require donating single finger, while wishing for catastrophic injuries' complete reversal might demand sacrifices approaching death itself.
RULE TWO - NO WITHDRAWAL:
Once entering the wish-making stage—once speaking desire aloud to Alluka and hearing his first request in response—the wisher cannot quit midway under any circumstances. No takebacks, no renegotiation, no transferring the request burden to different person willing to complete the process.
You spoke your wish. You initiated the contract. You must see it through to completion or suffer consequences.
RULE THREE - FOUR REFUSALS EQUALS DEATH:
If the wisher refuses Alluka's requests four times consecutively—declining to comply with demands the boy made—the Nega Nega no Mi would execute punishment with absolute finality. The person with the ability of the Wish-Wish Fruit would punish the wisher directly, crushing them into meat patty without any physical contact required.
The execution mechanism bypassed all conventional defenses. Armament Haki couldn't block it. Logia intangibility provided zero protection. Devil Fruit abilities offered no escape. The crushing simply happened, as though reality itself had decided the person no longer deserved three-dimensional existence.
RULE FOUR - COLLATERAL CASUALTIES:
After the wisher was punished and died—body flattened, consciousness extinguished—if the wish they'd made during their lifetime proved too great in ambition, the catastrophic consequences would implicate those close to them emotionally.
No matter what their identities were: family, friends, and crew members would be killed instantly by the Wish-Wish Fruit. The fruit apparently measured "closeness" through emotional bonds rather than physical proximity or blood relation—people the deceased genuinely cared about would share their punishment.
RULE FIVE - ABSOLUTE EQUALITY:
In front of a person possessing the Nega Nega no Mi's reality-warping authority, conventional hierarchies meant absolutely nothing. Regardless of status, race, or strength, anyone who failed making a wish would be directly wiped out.
This represented ability similar to the law of cause and effect itself—fundamental principle operating at metaphysical level that couldn't be changed by anyone's will, power, or privilege. The Wish-Wish Fruit enforced its rules with mechanical precision.
There were those who made wishes that failed and those who made wishes that succeeded. Among the experimental subjects the Big Mom Pirates had documented, one case stood out for both audacity and spectacular results.
A little-known pirate captain—nobody important, mid-level criminal with crew operating in Paradise—had wished for financial freedom. Not extraordinarily ambitious by Yonko standards, but significant enough that Alluka's three requests carried genuine cost.
After agreeing to donate one eye, two fingers, and three toes, the pirate captain had actually realized his dream in the most spectacular fashion imaginable.
The golden ship being sent by the Celestial Dragons to collect Heavenly Tribute treasure had been clearly sailing toward the Holy Land of Mary Geoise—massive galleon laden with gold coins, precious metals, and jewels collected from member nations as annual taxation.
But under the Wish-Wish Fruit's guidance, the ship ignored physical space completely.
The golden vessel—traveling at high speed with full sails catching strong winds—simply appeared directly near Cake Island. The kinetic energy the ship possessed did not change during the spatial displacement. The massive galleon crashed directly into the shore, wooden hull splintering against rocks, momentum carrying it inland before friction arrested its movement.
The damaged part of the ship ruptured completely, and gold coins scattered all over the ground in glittering avalanche that seemed to stretch endlessly. Everyone witnessing the scene stood absolutely stunned, minds struggling to process the sheer impossibility.
The successful wisher—now missing eye, two fingers, three toes but very much alive—even limped toward his own ship of wealth, breathing in what he described as "the smell of freedom emitted by the gold coins."
World Government Response:
The World Government's follow-up investigation regarding the incident proved completely fruitless. Intelligence agencies conducted exhaustive analysis, but they were unable to come up with any conclusion.
They could only decide that the Big Mom Pirates were primarily responsible for what they termed the "kidnapping of Heavenly Gold." The Five Elders ordered the Marine to intensify its attacks on the Four Emperors as retaliation, attempting to punish Charlotte Linlin's organization for theft they couldn't prove or prevent.
But they never discovered the actual mechanism. They never learned that a five-year-old imprisoned child could simply wish their treasure across thousands of miles of ocean.
Charlotte Alluka's extremely dangerous Devil Fruit ability might endanger the entire Totto Land archipelago if deployed carelessly. One wrong wish, one person refusing requests out of pride or ignorance, and hundreds might die as collateral casualties.
In the face of such irresistible mysterious force that operated according to rules nobody fully understood, the Big Mom Pirates had no ability to resist or defend themselves. Armament Haki couldn't block the fruit's judgment. Physical strength meant nothing against spatial compression.
In the end, they had no choice but to imprison Charlotte Hikaru's brother. Keep him confined where his abilities couldn't accidentally trigger, where desperate people couldn't reach him with wishes that might cascade into organizational catastrophe.
It wasn't cruelty, the siblings rationalized. It was necessary. Protective custody for everyone's sake.
"That black thing is coming again," one sibling whispered in the monitoring room, voice trembling with dread born from previous observations.
"Hikaru, you must succeed!" another prayed desperately.
"The whole world is riding on this," a third stated grimly, understanding that failure meant not merely Charlotte Katakuri's death but potential organizational collapse.
Of course, Charlotte Hikaru and Alluka couldn't hear anything from the brothers' and sisters' whispered prayers in the monitoring room. The surveillance was one-way observation only.
The elder sister waited patiently for her younger brother's reply, her expression displaying confidence that might be real or carefully constructed facade. To be honest, satisfying an underage boy's three requests was no different from risking her life—she had zero method for predicting what he might demand.
But Charlotte Hikaru had accepted that risk completely.
Like all girls—displaying innocence seemingly divorced from the apocalyptic power he commanded—Charlotte Alluka showed an innocent smile as he made his first request:
"Sister, pat my head!"
Charlotte Hikaru immediately agreed to this request, reaching out to caress her brother's small head tenderly. Her fingers ran through his long black hair with affection that transcended mere strategic necessity.
Charlotte Alluka really did love his sister touching his head. This was a way for the two siblings to be intimate despite the imprisonment separating them—stolen moments of gentle contact neither took for granted.
After completing the first request, Charlotte Alluka began his second request. He raised his right hand deliberately and made it into gun shape—thumb raised, index finger extended, other fingers curled into grip. The muzzle of the gun (his fingertips) pointed directly at his own sister.
Then, with the same innocent smile, Charlotte Alluka made his second demand:
"Sister, die!"
When faced with the second request, everyone except Charlotte Hikaru was horrified. The monitoring room erupted into suppressed chaos—siblings gasping, hands reaching toward screens as though they could physically intervene.
Can a boy who has not established a true worldview really understand the adults' view of life and death?! dozens of minds screamed. Does he comprehend what he's demanding?
This naive yet cruel request made some weak people shudder. They were even more afraid of Alluka—terrified this could mean the Big Mom Pirates would be destroyed in the hands of a pair of siblings instantly.
But Charlotte Hikaru showed no fear. A mysterious smile appeared at the corner of her mouth—expression suggesting she understood something observers didn't.
The tacit understanding between me and my brother, her smile communicated, is not enough for outsiders to comprehend!
"Da da..." Charlotte Alluka made a pistol gesture with his hand and produced the sound of firing with his mouth.
The next moment, Charlotte Hikaru fell to the ground.
The girl's head disappeared from the camera view, leaving what appeared to be headless corpse lying in front of Alluka. The body had fallen limply, her head concealed inside her oversized windbreaker.
The deathly silence lasted for one minute. The assembled Charlotte siblings felt palms sweating with nervous tension. Defeatist thoughts kept running through their minds: She's dead. We're next. The collateral death clause will activate.
But then Charlotte Alluka made his third request:
"Sister, come back to life."
The fallen Charlotte Hikaru's body slowly began to twist. Her small head popped out of her windbreaker again—emerging through the collar as though she'd merely been hiding rather than dying.
This prank had made the boy very happy. Charlotte Alluka's laughter rang through the chamber with pure childish delight—successful practical joke shared between twins who trusted each other completely.
It was theater, the monitoring room realized with overwhelming relief. Coordinated beforehand. Hikaru knew exactly what Alluka would request and prepared her performance accordingly.
The boy threw himself directly into his sister's arms, embracing her tightly. The successful completion of three requests generated joy so profound he couldn't contain it.
But when Charlotte Alluka raised his head again, his appearance had changed.
His eyes were covered in darkness—not merely dark pupils but absolute void where eyes should exist. A creepy black aura emanated from his body, visible distortion suggesting reality bending incorrectly around him.
When the wisher completes Alluka's third request, the Nega Nega no Mi would take away the use of the boy's body and fulfill the wisher's wish on his behalf.
This Devil Fruit had its own name—its own identity separate from the human host.
It called itself Nanica.
The Devil Fruit told its sister in person—Charlotte Alluka had explained to Hikaru during private conversations that "someone else" sometimes inhabited his body, someone who called herself Nanica.
Charlotte Hikaru did not dislike this special sister. She caressed the transformed child gently despite the wrongness radiating from him.
"Katakuri is very important to Totto Land," Charlotte Hikaru stated clearly to the Devil Fruit consciousness. "Nanica, you must heal him. Let's go."
The elder sister picked up her younger sister—the Devil Fruit consciousness wearing her brother's body—and walked toward the exit of the confinement room.
The moment Nanica appeared, Tien Shinhan immediately took the most tense defensive posture his experience demanded. All three eyes widened with recognition and alarm, muscles locking into combat-ready stance.
The terrifying black aura emanating from the girl came from the origin of the Devil Fruit—energy that was too evil for humans. Once it completely eroded and occupied the brain, the user with this ability could no longer be called human.
If someone is familiar with this black energy, they would be able to tell at a glance that it is essentially the same thing as the black flame cloud produced around the body when the Zoan Devil Fruit awakens.
There are many examples of failed awakening of Zoan Devil Fruits in Impel Down. They all lost themselves, became slaves of the Devil Fruits, lost their human souls and turned into beasts.
The appearance of Nanica positively confirms that the conclusion Caesar Clown drew through scientific practice is extremely correct: Devil Fruits do have self-awareness.
It's only a matter of time before the Devil Fruit becomes the master.
The Three-Eyed warrior maintained his defensive posture as Charlotte Hikaru carried the possessed child past him, every muscle prepared for instant combat if the entity displayed hostile intent.
But the transformed child paid him no attention, dark void-eyes focused entirely forward toward where Charlotte Katakuri awaited healing.
