Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 – Guiding the Subordinates’ Mindset

The Yamanaka Clan rogue ninja was being hunted by the Anbu—not because he leaked the clan's secret techniques, but because he developed a new jutsu that could lead the entire Yamanaka Clan to corruption.

Mind–Body Switch of the Heart Turn Technique.

A man and woman train together, sharing the ultimate experience.

What Yamanaka ninja could possibly withstand such temptation?

The reason the clan didn't send their own to execute the rogue was likely because they feared being influenced by him.

The fact that the rogue managed to lure two returning Yamanaka from the border only showed how alluring his "I sleep with myself technique" method truly was.

Depravity.

The Yamanaka Clan could never allow itself to fall into such corruption, so they had no choice but to ask for Anbu assistance.

With the perfect "tools" provided by the Yamanaka Clan, the Anbu readily accepted their request.

And so, Fox Squad was dispatched.

The Purple Cat, Yamanaka Rika, was assigned to witness the rogue's death personally. With Anbu supervision, there was no worry about Rika herself succumbing to corruption.

Only Yagami's eyes were tainted.

His eyes felt dirty.

And his heart ached.

Jealousy burned deep within him.

Yagami made a decision—he would learn every ninjutsu and secret art in the shinobi world.

He had crossed worlds once, he would pursue every new and thrilling experience this one could offer.

After the explosion, steam and heat filled the entire bathhouse.

Four naked bodies froze in panic.

"Switch back! Hurry!"

"There's no time!"

Their bodies, weakened from just experiencing climax, couldn't move properly. They stumbled, trying to defend themselves with bare hands.

At the front charged a woman—carrying a man's soul inside her body.

That manly soul was at least courageous, he was the first to move forward to block the attack. But his current body was female—his combat strength couldn't reach its full potential due to being unfamiliar with this body in combat.

Through the rising mist, Yagami's blade sliced horizontally.

The woman, hosting the man's soul, grabbed a tray to block the ninja blade.

But Yagami's Cloud Flow Sword Style suddenly shifted—from a horizontal slash to a sharp upward swing. The blade cut through the woman's throat.

With his reaction speed doubled and his style based on adaptive combat changes, Cloud Flow Sword Style was now flowing as naturally as his own breath.

Behind him, a man suddenly screamed in agony.

The Mind–Body Switch of the Heart Turn Technique had been forcibly broken.

The man felt the pain of having his throat slit; the woman suffered the death itself.

His soul returned to his body, screaming her name in despair.

They were anomalies—an inseparable pair whose souls and bodies resonated perfectly.

The death of one condemned the other to a fate worse than death.

"Ahhhh!!!"

He raised his trembling hands, fingers framing a small rectangle. "Mind–Bo—"

A kunai flew through the air.

The Yamanaka rogue ninja froze in shock as the kunai pierced cleanly through the frame formed by his fingers.

It buried deep into his chest—blood sprayed everywhere.

As expected of the Anbu—deadly precise.

After finishing off the two enemies, Yagami looked around.

Antelope and Black Bull had already killed another Yamanaka female rogue.

Not far away, a male Yamanaka lay dead, his body marked by the devastating blast of an explosive tag.

All four Yamanaka rogues now lay silent.

Yagami turned toward Purple Cat, ready to ask how to handle the corpses.

But at that moment, Black Bull suddenly raised a kunai and stabbed toward Yagami's side.

"Black Bull! What are you doing?!"

Antelope screamed, but it was too late.

Yagami, holding his blade in reverse, reacted purely by instinct. He thrust backward.

Before Black Bull's kunai could pierce his ribs, Yagami's sword had already pierced through Black Bull's throat.

"No!"

Rika dashed toward the Yamanaka rogue who had been blown apart earlier.

That rogue wasn't dead. Half his body had been obliterated, yet he managed to perform one final Mind–Body Switch.

Rika's kunai plunged into the rogue's skull.

Yagami pulled out his blade, glancing regretfully at Black Bull.

What a waste. Why did he have to die?

He approached Rika, staring at the kunai embedded in the corpse's head.

"Purple cat, you were too reckless."

"First, when Black Bull died, you lost your composure. As the squad's support-type operative, you shouldn't have rushed in like that.

"Second, the rogue's brain might have contained valuable intel. By stabbing his head, you may have destroyed critical information."

"I'm sorry, Captain. I acted out of inexperience. I just wanted to make sure he was really dead."

Suddenly, angry pounding echoed from outside the bathhouse.

An explosive tag blew off the roof, and the bathhouse owner stormed in with armed samurai, demanding answers.

Yagami didn't want to argue.

When ninja are on a mission, property damage is inevitable—and the Anbu never pay compensation.

"Carry all the bodies. We're withdrawing!"

Including Black Bull, there were now five corpses.

Yagami wrapped two in a bath towel, Antelope carried two, and Rika carried one. The three quickly evacuated.

Once far from the town, Yagami ordered a rest stop.

Rika, uneasy, approached her captain.

"I'm sorry, Captain. Because of my clan…"

"Purple cat!" Yagami cut her off. "I don't like lecturing you, but you're making mistakes again."

"You must always protect your secrets."

"In the Anbu, we rarely use ninjutsu during missions. Most of the time, we rely on taijutsu and explosive tags to finish fights. That's to keep our information secure.

"Anbu who expose their techniques become prime targets for enemy intelligence."

"The man you see strolling through the village as an ordinary uncle might be a squad captain by night."

"Outside missions, don't talk about your personal life."

"The mission always comes first."

"And don't carry guilt over a comrade's death. Those emotions are meaningless to Anbu."

"Black Bull died honorably in action."

"He was under the rogue's control. I killed him without hesitation—because if I hadn't, I'd be the one dead now."

Yagami had initially been annoyed by Rika's emotional display. But on second thought, guiding a subordinate's mentality was also part of a captain's duty.

Ensuring the team's mental fortitude improved mission success—and his own survival chances.

He continued calmly, "That Purple Cat mask you wear once belonged to one of my teammates.

"He died right in front of me. We worked together perfectly."

"One day, I'll die too—and this Fox mask will go to another Anbu."

"Our only duty is to complete our missions before death."

The Anbu's high mortality rate came largely from Danzo's command style.

Whenever the Anbu were deployed, Danzo would send them to probe enemy intelligence first. He'd either show up later to claim the results—or retreat once he got what he wanted.

Just like when he led the Anbu to the Rain Village to kill Yahiko—that one mission cost half of Root's elite forces.

Or like when he faced Obito and Sasuke before his death, sending his best subordinates to "test" Obito while he observed from behind, slowly removing his arm guards.

Purple cat quickly nodded. "Understood, Captain. I'll adjust my mindset and become a true Anbu operative."

Black Bull's death had shaken Antelope deeply as well.

In truth, only someone like Yagami—who'd survived the brutal wars of Uzumaki clan—truly understood that death was the natural state of the Anbu.

By dawn, they returned to the Anbu's Forest of Death base. Yagami reported to Captain Black Ape and submitted their mission results.

Black Ape skimmed the report and said,

"Two extra rogues down. The Yamanaka Clan will be pleased.

"Oh, and Black Bull's dead? I'll request a replacement from Root tomorrow."

His tone was flat, as if talking about picking up a new kunai. He added,

"Your subordinates have been with you for over two months. Lucky bunch—still alive."

"Most of our recent missions were internal."

"External missions test a true Anbu's worth. Make sure Rika and Antelope keep training—no slacking."

Yagami nodded.

"Understood. I'll make sure they do. Captain, I'd like to request permission to monitor the Uzumaki Princess tomorrow. Haven't seen her for two days—it feels strange."

"There's such a request?" Black Ape snorted. "Fine. But you'll get no days off. Monitor her tomorrow."
