The lobby of the Jade Springs Resort was usually a haven of tranquility, designed to lower your blood pressure the moment you stepped inside. Koi ponds bubbled softly, guzheng music drifted through the air like perfume, and the scent of jasmine tea was everywhere.
But this morning, somrhting was off.
Yichen, Lin Jun, and Han Lei were clustered by the reception desk. Han Lei was pointing wildly at a large topographical map on the wall, clearly trying to convince the others that climbing a mountain before breakfast was a "bonding experience."
Lin Jun stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his posture rigid, his eyes scanning the room every three seconds like a security camera on a loop.
Qiao Mei was sitting on a sofa in the far corner, as far away from the men as possible. She was wearing a hat with a brim so wide it could double as an umbrella, and sunglasses that covered half her face.
