Chapter 58 - First Plunder, Chapter 58

Jason woke up at sunrise, the strings came through the roof's cracks announcing it day time

Stepping over the sleepers and towards the door, he found it to be the first of winter. Walking out, he found that some did so before him, while most were deep asleep

He walked leaning on a bucket of cold water and washing his face , some pots were on fire as people sat by it

"Cooking will only reveal our location" said someone by the fire to his friend "The smoke is just a signal announcing there are bandits in here. So, we need it prepared by the time we reach the hunting grounds"

Jason washing his face saw two boys chuckling, one held a big empty pot and the other a stick as they went inside the stable, some silence before a Big Metallic Clang!!! Came forth

Screams of came out all of sudden as the two boys ran out of there,

Doryon walked out from the stable yawning, others walked out as well

"At least they woke up" said Ramo

"So… when will we head out?" Jason asked as he looked at Ramo behind him

"The first hunt will contain only half of us" said Ramo "The next will contain the other half and so on the roles shall be switched"

Doryon coming to wash his face asked "would it not be safer, and more profitable for all or most to head together" cupping his hands and splashing water over both his hair and eyes

"The rest need to continue the reconstructions" said Ramo "By the time we come back we'll have more horses; we can't continue to spend the night in the stable"

"Plus keeping an eye on this place won't hurt us, we have enough numbers to take over any marching caravan" as Ramo walked away

"He did not wash his face," said Jason

"So… do you think he meant that we are allowed there?" asked Doryon

"If he did not wish us to be, he couldn't have talked in the first place" replied Jason

"I noticed him being friendly towards you most of the time" said Doryon, both hands supporting his back as he seated the white grass staring the sky

"It seems he pities me" saic Jason "Or he thinks of me a spy"

"I don't know about that" said Doryon

"I too agree that he pities you" said Seryon

"I did not say that I agreed with it" said Doryon looking back

Seryon stared his reflection in the wavery waters inside the bucket before saying "After all, you would be such a terrible spy. With how emotional you can get and how bad are your skills"

He scooped some cold water out, forcing his eyes to push out the sleepiness

"Why would he think of you as that anyways?" asked Doryon

"The fact that I was the only survive from a big slavery camp, coming with all my limbs intact just about the time they massacred everyone" replied Jason standing up

"Why would a Viking betray his people anyways, spying and hiding beneath their leg and behind their ears, that seems, weird" said Seryon

"I don't know, once I become a spy, I will be sure to ask myself that," said Jason

"Wait you don't really plan on doing so, are you?" said Seryon, Jason smiled walking away with silence to be the answer

From behind the trees and beside the bushes, there where no light reached a robe man was watching, not to be noticed, people passed by as he disappeared

"I… am still hesitant, about it all" said Doryon

"What do you mean?" said Seryon

"About the killing part," replied Doryon "I grew up differently than the both of you, all my life was spent inside the shelter"

Seryon replied to him saying "In my part, my brother lied to me, I was told that we inhabited a village wish was invaded by the Varish, and thus we fled towards the shelter"

"Half of that is true though" replied Doryon "Although instead of it being a village, you can just call it a fortress. Just like this one"

Doryon pointed towards the wall under reconstruction, wooden pillars, mud and rock razing it from the ground once more

"I still don't believe we had such a thing across three camps" said Seryon as his eyes stared where it reached the trees in hight

"It did fall anyway, so it is nothing much," said Jason

"It did not just fall" replied Doryon "It was demolished, what did the Kazar have up their sleeve to do such a thing"

"Maybe bulls" said Seryon as they stared him dumbfounded

"No really I mean it" he continued "With enough of them sacrificed they can force it down somehow"

Before them a man stood behind the table, they were last in line, although it wasn't that big. He handed over the weapons for each person that had his name on the list

"Lets just focus on the work ahead for the next couple of days," said Jason

It was their turn in line

"Name and age?" said the man behind the table

"Jason, 15" he got handed an axe

The two of them stared Jason in non-belief

"What?" asked Jason feeling weird about it

"You two, name and age quickly" said the man behind the table

"Doryon, 16", he got handed a bow and few arrows

"Seryon, 16" he got handed a sword

As they walked out Jason spoke saying

"What was that look for earlier?"

"Well, not to be mean or anything" said Doryon "But…—"

Seryon cutting him said "I thought you were like 12 or 13 maximum"

As Doryon looked back at him open jawed eye lids falling down Seryon said "What?! I mean he is short, too short"

Doryon sighed and said "I should've thought that the lack of food might have had its affect on you"

"No, I am truly fine, this is the normal hight for me it is not about food or anything" said Jason trying to explain his situation

"You don't have to bear it alone, brother. We are here with you" said Seryon climbing the carriage

"No really it is not like that—" said Jason as the carriage was shut before his face, leaving him outside alone

"Go to the other one" said the men who shut the doors before he went to the front riding it off

The horse steps moved forward leading them out the forest as the sun started to seat itself underneath the horizon

When night clawed at the skies they stopped for a rest, walking out Jason after helping in installing the tent he walked back towards where the food was being disturbed

"So, what is it we are going to eat" said Jason sitting beside them

"Soup…" replied Seryon "It is always have been soup" disappointment written all over his face

"If you don't like it, you can always go back to the shelter" said Doryon

Seryon keeping eye contact took a scoop out and poured it inside his bowl

As they at they had a conversation between the three of them

"So… what is it we are going to do now" said Doryon

"See that river over there?" said Seryon pointing at the forever greens

"No?" replied Doryon

"We must keep it that way" said Seryon

"…Ok I guess" said Doryon

"What he means is that we cannot let any carriage that witnesses us reach it" said Jason "Their must be a bridge guarded over there"

"What if they do reach it fleeing the scene?" said Doryon

"Then our camp is doomed, it will be a matter of time before the army comes towards it," said Jason

A sound a bird's whistle echoed across the camp, all talks stopped

"A carriage it is" said Seryon smiling, unsheathing his sword

"See you guys, I will join the archers" said Doryon picking up his bow and arrows

The close rangers laid flat on the grass, their carriages were seated far away in the dark, they witnessed 3carriages total coming their way

They were guarded heavily, knights stood circling them from every side

"This is going to be a rich hunt" said Ramo hiding in the grass

The horses walked on the grass, little did they know that where they sat foot was a trap sat by the Vikings

Arrows rained them at an instant from both directions taking many knights who stood by,close Rangers went breaking the wooden wheels

From inside each carriage walked out some self-assigned knights, but what really caught interest was the man stepping out from the back side

"What the…" said Seryon

Before them he stood huge as a mountain, belly guiding him first, chest naked, leather that barely covered his bottom

He looked Seryon's way throwing an axe

The rusty sword he held barley guided it away before splitting apart

"This, is a monster" said Seryon

The Huge brown coloured man cut through them, some were injured, others fled from him, he did kill two who stood in his way implanting his axe in their bodies

Jason was barley holding his own against a knight, trying to stay alive for as long as possible

"Seryon!!" he shouted continuing to defend himself

Arrows rained the big guy from each direction, a couple did reach him, but his fat did its job as a shield

Seryon decided he had no escape, he ^picked a sword from a nearby dead knight and held his grounds

The second axe came falling downwards at Seryon, he did make it slide towards his left, but the pressure of it created cracks in his weapon while pushing his knee inside the dirt

His arms started to shake, as more hits came forth pushing him away, both hands of Seryon couldn't handle the single hand strikes from that man

His broke shattered once more, and there he saw his own demise. Time started to slow down as the axe came downwards, each was in a trouble of their own

Chink!!!

Ramo parried the hit away, he continued with a slash, but for some reason he lowered his blade making a shallow hit

Jason was the only person to notices so, though he did not give it much thought

Axe strike rained as he parried each, none of them was pushed at all

The fight continued on, little shallow strikes fell down on the big body before him, continuing to spill blood painting it red

The big man continued to get exhausted whilst Ramo did not break a swat

With a swift kick leaning down he managed to make the big bull before him imbalanced, forcing a bend of the knee

He implanted his blade inside the man's neck, making it go through to the other side and pushing to the left cutting of the skull from the body

The battle shortly finished as they walked around making sure no body was left alive, catching the Merchants in hiding and tying them with rope closing their mouths

"Let me be truthful" said Seryon to Jason "I did not think of Ramo to be this skilled. Especially after hearing about how he escaped a falling camp, i thought he was just your normal fighter"

"He did play around too much though" said Jason as they went towards the carriage to open it

"What do you mean?" asked Seryon, Jason was wide eyed, open jawed, shocked was a downgrade to what ever his facial features held

"What?" asked Seryon coming to him

The carriage was filled with gold, although not to the brim, but it was way too much for a normal person, and shortly they heard the others finding the same as well

"What the heck!!!" shouted one from the second carriage

"Its, its gold, all of it is real gold" one standing by the third carriage

Seryon stared Jason and said "What did we just lay hands on"

"A treasure, this is a treasure for sure" replied Jason
