When Eric woke the next morning, the house was quiet. He slipped out of bed carefully, mindful not to disturb her.
He moved quickly down the hall, and found Benedict already in the kitchen, preparing the usual morning coffee.
"Good morning, Mr. Blackwood," Benedict greeted, handing him his cup with a small, knowing smile. There was a quiet understanding between the two men—Benedict knew the estate, knew the dynamics, and often acted as the bridge between Eric and the chaotic world he sometimes couldn't navigate.
Eric accepted the coffee, sipping it slowly, savoring the warmth. "Benedict," he began, "cancel the appointment with the doctor. You can take her home when she wakes up."
