As time passed, the expression on Whis face grew increasingly grave as he studied the crystal orb.
Seeing this, Beerus swallowed hard.
What the hell is going on?
Half an hour went by.
By the time little Broly was finally half full, the light within the crystal orb atop Whis's staff gradually dimmed.
"Well?" Beerus asked in a serious tone.
Gran pricked up his ears.
Bulma leaned in as well—she practically wished she had a bag of sunflower seeds in hand so she could snack while listening to these cosmic secrets.
"Lord Beerus…"
Whis said with mild astonishment,
"It seems… our universe is kind of insanely awesome."
The phrase "insanely awesome" was something Whis had picked up from Gran.
He felt it fit the Seventh Universe's current state perfectly.
"Huh?"
Beerus was dumbfounded.
What was Whis even trying to say?
Soon, Whis began recounting the changes the Seventh Universe had undergone over the past ten years.
Beerus destroying unqualified planets.
The dual Supreme Kai jointly governing the universe.
The emergence of high-potential civilizations.
Merus training the remaining Saiyans.
The cooperation between the Galactic Patrol and the Saiyan race…
After hearing it all, Gran smiled faintly.
Just as expected
it matched almost exactly what he himself had witnessed over the past two years.
Beerus narrowed his eyes.
Only now did he realize that his universe was actually… pretty impressive.
Bulma didn't fully understand the details,
but she had a strong feeling that her universe sounded ridiculously strong.
As for little Broly—
he was still happily eating his rice balls and seasoned soup.
"Lord Beerus," Gran said, walking over and patting him on the shoulder, his tone like that of an elder giving advice,
"see now? This is our universe's foundation."
"You shouldn't be so lazy anymore. As long as you put in a bit more effort, our Seventh Universe will reach first place sooner or later."
However
Beerus brushed Gran's hand away and replied irritably,
"No thanks. That sounds exhausting. If you want to do it, do it yourself. Besides, you already know how to break the rules anyway."
If Gran hadn't learned Rule-Breaking, Beerus might've indulged him and helped personally.
But things were different now.
"..."
Gran had always thought Beerus was lazy because he didn't understand just how deep the Seventh Universe's foundation was.
Turns out—that wasn't it at all.
It was true that Beerus hadn't realized how strong his universe really was,
but his laziness had nothing to do with that.
He was just… genuinely lazy.
But then again
That's Lord Beerus for you.
"Hmph. Lord Beerus is no fun at all."
Gran curled his lips.
With a God of Destruction like this, what else could he do?
Gran soon left the dining hall.
Inside the restaurant, only Bulma, Whis, Beerus, and little Broly—still eating breakfast—remained.
"Whis," Beerus said with a grin, resting against the table,
"do you think that kid can really push our universe to first place?"
"Lord Beerus, you're acting strange," Whis replied teasingly.
"Your thoughts keep changing. Didn't you just say you weren't interested in rankings?"
Whis naturally knew the reason behind it all.
"If I hadn't taken Gran in as my disciple," Beerus said calmly,
"I really wouldn't have cared about the rankings at all."
Resting his chin in his hand, he chuckled.
"But now… I kind of want to taste what first place feels like."
Gran's words—that a second-from-last universe didn't suit the strongest God of Destruction
Beerus found himself fully agreeing with them now.
"If you want to taste first place," Whis asked as he returned to his seat,
"why don't you do it yourself?"
"Haven't I been doing it for the past ten years?" Beerus replied.
The smile at the corner of his lips deepened.
"Now that Gran has learned to break the rules, it's about time I took a proper rest."
"..."
Whis was speechless.
You've always been resting, haven't you?!
Still, he understood what Beerus meant.
If the Seventh Universe wanted to rise in the rankings,
they'd need to diligently destroy unqualified planets.
And destruction was also the fastest way to enhance destructive power
the perfect opportunity for Gran to push Rule-Breaking to even higher levels.
The dining hall fell quiet once more.
Little Broly continued eating without a care in the world.
Meanwhile, after hearing all the gossip, Bulma suddenly felt that Gran was a bit pitiful
being stuck with such a lazy, cat-like God of Destruction.
Over the next few days
Gran didn't appear at Bulma's estate at all.
He vanished again.
Beerus didn't comment on it,
because from his perception, Gran hadn't left Earth.
As for Gran's next stage of training, there was no rush.
Both Beerus and Whis had witnessed Gran's growth during their recent battle.
In every aspect, Gran had reached an almost perfect state.
What he lacked now was only raw power.
Of course, it still wasn't time to have the Old Supreme Kai unlock Gran's potential.
The Old Supreme Kai hadn't fully adjusted yet.
Whis estimated it would take another three years before potential unlocking was possible.
In other words, Gran had a three-year window.
And Whis hadn't yet decided how Gran should train during that time.
No need to rush.
While he pondered that question,
it was just as well to let Gran rest properly.
Gran had spent two years cultivating Rule-Breaking,
then fought Beerus head-on
he was thoroughly exhausted.
Seven days passed.
At last, Gran returned.
"Lord Gran, you're back?!"
Inside the estate, Bulma was overjoyed when she saw Gran descending from the sky.
"Mm."
Gran looked at her calmly.
Bulma was no longer wearing that bulky gravity suit
she seemed to have adapted to her current level of strength.
"Lord Gran," she asked while standing on the lawn,
"where did you go these past few days?"
"To see Kakarot," Gran replied as he landed.
He didn't hide it.
"Goku?"
Bulma froze for a moment, then asked curiously,
"I haven't seen Goku in a long time. How is he doing now?"
"He's preparing for the World Martial Arts Tournament two years from now," Gran said.
"He's training alone."
"I see…"
Hearing that Goku was safe, Bulma let out a small sigh of relief.
Earth was dangerous too
she didn't want anything to happen to her friends.
"Gran," Bulma asked tentatively,
"I've adapted to my current strength. When will you teach me how to fly?"
