Chapter 16 - The System - Chapter 5

The sounds of the gentle, yet chaotic morning woke me up.

Infront of my eyes laid a building, barren and destroyed, covered in faint sparks that had remained in the air from the previous alteration.

[Error Has Been Corrected]

[System Will Soon Be Restored To Normal]

My eyes stared at the message floating infront of them.

It was something I didn't quite understand despite my many lives that I had lived.

'Why does the system recognise the Author as an 'error'"

I wondered that thought to myself for quite sometime before eventually getting up from my spot.

My injuries were mostly healed and I could move fine.

'The forest' , I remembered my promise to Beatrice. I had to go and meet up with her. On my way I fought the still lingering shadows.

Their appearance and presence was now much more 'defined', they were slowly being admitted to this reality.

It was clear that last night was a massacre. No bodies could be seen as they were fully consumed, no life in the city was left that wasn't converted into mana and if it was left it was either exceptionally talented or absurdly lucky.

It usually wasn't like this. In my previous lives Beatrice and I had always managed to delay the deaths of many but this time it wasn't possible.

'I pray that Beatrice is safe'

Before heading out to the forest I returned to my house.

The shard.

Its overwhelming presence distorted everything near it. The room it was in , now completely overgrown with roots stemming from the shard. The shard itself, now incased in a cube of a blue glow, had a stem coming out of it.

"What in the genuine f*ck."

I stared at that sight.

It was a shard, it was glass, it wasn't a seed. Then how did a plant grow out of it.

I was baffled by what I was seeing, the shard of an ink cartridge had a plant growing from it.

It wasn't a normal shard but I still didn't expect that.

[You Don't Have The Permission To Access This Area.]

I couldn't go near it. My feet were repelled by the force of the system.

I wanted to know more about it, I wanted to understand it a bit better , what it was , what it did , and how it came to be.

But I wasn't someone strong enough to overcome the influence of the system on which I relied. It simply wasn't something possible, not for now.

I left , feeling a bit overwhelmed by what I had seen. It hasn't even been twenty four hours yet such a thing happened, if given more time what else will happen. I wondered to myself.

Would it have grown into a tree even if it was still lodged into my arm?

The route to the forest was long and arduous.

The roads were extremely battered and in dark corners or alleyways there were Shadows creeping and crawling, hunting for prey and mana.

I couldn't take any vehicles because they made too much noise, my only choice was to travel on foot.

On my way I had made a plan, a very simple, stupid but possible plan.

If I wanted to know why the system thought that the author was an error and if I wanted permission to go near the shard, I would simply ask it's creator - Goldemar, The king of Dwarves.

The creator of the system, one of the most ancient beings , currently residing in the Realm Of The Dwarves.

It was far from a good plan, but I couldn't think of many other ways to get the answers I wanted.
