Chapter 104: Specter Scimitar
Kenji hadn't forgotten that [Spoils of War] had dropped a Mythic Item Forger for him.
And after defeating Tyson Tang and earning the Metropolis Gym Badge, Kenji had earned one draw for a random-tier Hex Core.
Kenji clenched his fists. He decided to draw the Hex Core first. If he had the luck to draw a Prismatic Hex Core, he didn't want the Mythic Item Forger to somehow consume that luck.
And even if the Mythic Item he opened wasn't useful, Kenji wasn't worried. The Gold Shop sold [Reforgers]; he could always break the item down.
With a plan in mind, Kenji focused his thoughts, and the Hex Core spinning wheel began to rapidly turn.
The wheel didn't show the specific Hex Cores, but it displayed the glow corresponding to the tiers.
Silver Hex Cores glowed white.
Gold Hex Cores were yellow, and Prismatic Hex Cores were, naturally, rainbow-colored.
The wheel slowed down. Every time the colorful glow flashed past, Kenji's heart leaped, only to drop when the white glow appeared.
His state of mind felt like a rollercoaster.
Finally, the light settled: a brilliant gold.
"Ding!! Congratulations, Host, for receiving a Gold Hex Core: Pretending to Slack Off!"
[Gold Hex Core: Pretending to Slack Off]
Hex Core Effect: You cannot use the Gold Shop for the next week. In two weeks, you will receive two Finished Item Forgers...
Kenji's mouth twitched. Thankfully, he had already Starred Up Larvitar. He didn't urgently need the Gold Shop right now.
Kenji couldn't say he was satisfied, but he wasn't too disappointed either. It was the kind of item that was "tasteless to eat, but a pity to discard."
Shaking his head, Kenji turned his attention to the Mythic Item Forger.
He hoped the Mythic Item Forger would bring some unexpected surprises.
Kenji silently prayed, then opened the Mythic Item Forger.
The sound of hammering steel rang in his ear, followed by a selection screen appearing before him.
Four Ornn's Artifacts appeared.
[Sanguine Blade]
Base Stats: Speed +50, Physical Attack +50
Mythic Effect: Cannot use any moves, can only fight with physical strength. Attacks deal an additional 100% Physical Attack damage and restore HP equal to the extra damage dealt.
Looking at the first artifact, Kenji frowned. Sanguine Blade? It actually pulled this item out.
In Kenji's memory, this item only existed for a season or two, but its side effect was far too large. Limiting a Pokémon to only physical attacks severely cut down its utility.
With just a glance, Kenji eliminated it.
[Horizon Focus]
Base Stats: Special Attack +30
Effect: When inflicting Sleep status on an enemy, it will strike the enemy with a lightning bolt, dealing massive damage.
Horizon Focus was a decent artifact, but it was too niche. Currently, only Ninetales, which knew Hypnosis, was suitable for it.
[Specter Scimitar (Ghostblade)]
Base Stats: Physical Attack +15
Effect: Within the first thirty seconds of the match, gain one opportunity to instantly Teleport behind the opponent. The Teleport state lasts for fifteen seconds. After fifteen seconds, the user will return to their original position before the Teleport.
Specter Scimitar!
When Kenji saw the special effect of the Specter Scimitar, his eyes instantly lit up.
When he played the game in his past life, Ghostblade required complicated positioning. Now, after being modified by the system, the Specter Scimitar could simply teleport the user behind the target.
This Specter Scimitar truly lived up to the name of a Mythic Item.
Suppressing his excitement, Kenji focused on the final artifact.
[Gleaming Blade]
Base Stats: Physical Attack +5, Special Attack +5
Effect: Each time a move is used, move speed increases by 5%, and gain 5 Special Attack and 5 Physical Attack. Can be stacked. Effect disappears after the battle...
Kenji raised an eyebrow. Wasn't this a strengthened Guinsoo's Rageblade?
Gaining stacking Physical and Special Attack boosts, while also increasing move speed, made this a very versatile piece of equipment.
After a moment's contemplation, Kenji ultimately chose the Specter Scimitar.
There was no helping it. While the Gleaming Blade was versatile, the instant ambush effect of the Specter Scimitar was simply too insane.
It was a shame that of his six Pokémon, only Larvitar didn't have a full three items. The other five already did.
And since the Gold Shop was locked, he couldn't buy a [Remover] right now. The Specter Scimitar would have to sit in the system space and gather dust for a while.
Kenji hadn't decided which Pokémon would ultimately get the Specter Scimitar. Arbok, Gyarados, and Bellossom were all excellent candidates.
Arbok and Gyarados spoke for themselves: instant teleportation behind the opponent for a powerful strike. The opponent would not enjoy that.
As for Bellossom? Imagine hitting the opponent with a full-power Solar Beam from point-blank range, boosted by Solar Power.
One Solar Beam would blast a hole right through the opponent.
As for Ninetales and Beedrill, Ninetales already knew Teleport, so it didn't strictly need the Specter Scimitar's effect.
And Beedrill...
When it activated Overdrive Mode, its movement was already near instantaneous.
Why borrow a teleportation technique when the path to supremacy is already paved with super-speed?
After drawing the Hex Core and the Mythic Item, Kenji finally began planning his journey. December was fast approaching. The New Year was about a month and a half away.
The National Collegiate League was less than five months away.
And the National League Championship was less than ten months away.
Based on the timeline, Kenji decided to start from Metropolis, travel first to Sujiang Province to earn the Sujiang Gym Badge, and then pass through Sujiang to reach Summit Province.
By the time he arrived in Edgecliff City, it would be close to the New Year holidays.
He would collect the rest of the badges after the New Year.
