Chapter 116: Traces of a Legendary Pokémon??
Upon arriving at the booked room, Kenji released Ninetales.
Ninetales was quite dry, thanks to the fire constantly burning within her body. It allowed her to regulate her body temperature at will, keeping herself warm and dry anytime, anywhere.
Dryness aside, the thought of having been rained on was too much for the slightly mysophobic Ninetales, who buried her head and walked straight into the bathroom.
...
Kenji leaned against the window sill, watching the patter of rain outside, lost in thought.
When Ninetales emerged from the bathroom, Kenji grabbed a change of clothes and took a quick shower himself. After resting for a couple of hours and seeing the rain hadn't let up, he didn't mind. He grabbed his backpack and headed out again.
He hailed a ride to the Pokémon Center in the city center via an app, then shared an umbrella with Ninetales as they walked into the curtain of rain to wait by the roadside.
After about five or six minutes, the car arrived, and Kenji and Ninetales got in.
The driver wasn't chatty, and the ride was silent. Two hours later, the car stopped at the Jinling City Pokémon Center.
Getting out of the car, Kenji noticed the rain had stopped, though traces of it still lingered on the streets.
Kenji walked into the Pokémon Center and approached the front desk. He pulled a black-and-gold card from his pocket to check in.
The card bore the Metropolis Academy logo on one side and the Pokémon Center logo on the other.
When Kenji handed the black-gold card to the receptionist, her eyes widened, and she couldn't help but glance at Kenji several times as she took it.
This was a Black Gold Card issued by the Pokémon Center, exclusive to top-tier academies. Possessing this card meant all expenses at the Pokémon Center—including but not limited to accommodation, food, healing, physical examinations, Pokéblocks, wilderness items—were completely free.
Even among top-tier academies, the number of these Black Gold Cards was extremely limited, often numbering in the single digits per year.
"Hello, sir. Please follow me..."
With such a VIP, the receptionist became much more respectful, gesturing for him to follow as she led Kenji deeper into the Pokémon Center.
She escorted Kenji to his room, which turned out to be a large flat with immense space and complete facilities. It was big enough to accommodate even large Pokémon like Gyarados, saving Kenji the trouble of going to the outdoor area to feed it dinner.
Looking around, Kenji found the room's built-in Pokémon Transfer Machine. He planned to send the little Scraggy to Tyson Tang first.
"Yo, arrived in Jinling City so soon? No trouble on the way, I hope." The video call connected, and Tyson Tang scanned the background, instantly recognizing that Kenji was already in a room. He asked with a grin.
Kenji hummed an affirmative. "I wasn't supposed to arrive until evening, but it started raining at noon. I had no choice but to hurry up. The journey was smooth enough, no accidents."
Tyson Tang was sitting on a sofa, one hand resting behind his head. He nodded. "Alright. Be careful in Jinling City for a while."
Kenji frowned, asking curiously, "Why? What happened in Jinling City?"
Seeing Kenji's blank expression, Tyson Tang casually explained, "Nothing much. Just that the Electric-type Pokémon near Jinling City have been restless lately, and there have been frequent thunderstorms. But it shouldn't be a big deal."
Hearing this, Kenji's eyes instantly lit up.
As the saying goes, "when things are abnormal, there must be a demon." Pokémon unrest combined with weather manipulation... wasn't that the sign of a Legendary Pokémon?!
There weren't many Electric-type Legendaries. In Kenji's memory, there was Zapdos of the Legendary Birds, Raikou of the Legendary Beasts, Thundurus of the Forces of Nature, Zekrom of the Tao Trio representing Ideals, and Regieleki, created by Regigigas.
Of these, Zekrom hadn't been seen by the world in who knows how many years, leaving only legends.
As for Regieleki, it was likely slumbering in some ruins somewhere in the world, unlikely to be wandering around.
That left Zapdos, Raikou, and Thundurus as the remaining possibilities. These three were occasionally sighted in various parts of the world.
And according to legend, the passage of these three Pokémon was indeed accompanied by thunderstorms.
"Hey, what are you thinking about?" Seeing Kenji spacing out, Tyson Tang suddenly spoke up, interrupting Kenji's thoughts.
Kenji shook his head, then tentatively said, "Nothing. I was just thinking, 'when things are abnormal, there must be a demon.' Do you think there might be a Legendary Pokémon near Jinling City?"
Tyson Tang nodded. "The League has already dispatched investigators and researchers to investigate thoroughly. I believe results will be out soon.
"But I advise you not to get any ideas about this matter. Legendary Pokémon are not to be trifled with."
Tyson Tang looked serious as he said this.
Kenji asked curiously, "Gym Leader Tang, have you ever seen a Legendary Pokémon?"
"I have," Tyson Tang replied casually.
Kenji's eyes lit up. "Which one?"
Tyson Tang said calmly, "Back when I hadn't graduated from university yet, I was traveling around the country collecting badges just like you. I ran into an Entei in the Western Region."
"And then?" seeing Tyson Tang fall silent, Kenji pressed.
Tyson Tang shrugged. "And then it just disappeared and left."
"..."
Not wanting to continue talking nonsense with Tyson Tang, Kenji transferred Scraggy over using the machine and ended the video call.
After hanging up, Kenji lay on the bed. He had barely looked at his phone while in the wilderness. Searching "Jinling City" on a short video app, he found it was just as Tyson Tang had said.
