Adrian POV
"I can't say what happened to her, but she refused to be escorted back to the estate."
"What did you say to her next?"
He did not reply immediately there was a pause.
The pause was slight but incriminating.
"I informed her that returning to the estate was recommended. For her safety."
Thorne pinched the bridge of his nose.
Not enough, that's definitely not all he said, I couldn't help but realize this.
"And?" I pressed.
Marcus's throat moved. "I may have… cautioned her."
"Cautioned her?" My voice dropped lower. "About what?"
He hesitated again, wrong answer.
I stepped closer, close enough that he had to tilt his head to look at me.
"What did you say to her?"
Marcus inhaled sharply. "I expressed that certain parties believed she might be compromised."
Silence wrapped the room like a noose.
Max closed his eyes in disbelief.
Thorne muttered a curse.
My hand curled into a fist. "You implied to Elena that my team suspects her of disloyalty?"
