Warm sunlight streamed softly through the curtains, illuminating the room in pale gold. Rylan shifted slightly in his sleep, half-waking up as he registered someone next to him.
He blinked slowly, gaze lazily shifting up to see who it was. His breath caught in a sudden realization that he wasn't back home, nor was the person he was sleeping against someone he was familiar with.
The events of yesterday slowly drifted back as he gently lifted his arm to remove it from Elaine's waist. He rolled onto his back, staring at the ceiling and listening to the muffled sounds of traffic outside the building.
He lifted a hand, dragging it over his face, before glancing through his fingers at Elaine. She let out a small groan, shifting slightly against the pillows while muttering something.
Rylan blinked, reaching over and moving her hair from her face, freezing when her eyes cracked open.
"...Rylan?" Elaine murmured, squinting at him faintly. "You good?"
