Chapter 26 - ★: Take Life

When Lorien's carriage drew away from Grandmother Judith's house, he did not return to his father's mansion; instead he instructed the coachman to take the opposite road — the very place Malorie had once dreaded and fled.

The horses trotted softly across the sward, pausing presently at the entrance of the house. The coachman alighted, though Lorien had already opened his door and stepped out ere the slow fellow could make any attempt to do so for him.

"My Lord." The instructor — the very man who had carried Malorie off from the port — bowed with a courtesy practised and false before the duke's son.
