Arriving at the city's most prominent hospital Capital Hill hospital, Ariana quickly got out of her car and walked in. Whenever she felt sick, this was the exact hospital she goes me to as they had skilled doctors who were not just excellent in their field of work but also had a way of making their patients feel calm and safe despite whatever they might have been down with.
As they'd normally do,one of the receptionists welcomed her and she quickly stated what she was at the hospital for. They had her wait for a while before gesturing her into the medical genetics department.
She handed them her parents samples and requested for both a paternity and maternity test. Her blood was taken as her own sample and they estimated how long it would take before the results are out.
Ariana was completely ignorant of things like this because never had she thought she'd be taking one eventually. She took the number of the head doctor as he informed her he was going to let her know when the results are ready.
Ariana tried to adjusted to the reality she was now living in. If she was told that one day she'd be doing this, she would have denied it. But now, everyday came with its own surprises and she didn't know what to expect anymore from life.
She felt confused and a part of her feared what the results would be. Usually, she'd be confident but lately her parents hadn't given her any other choice but to doubt the fact they were her actual parents.
They were distant, bitter and not bothered.
The more she thought about them, the more the doubt increased. She began to go down memory lane and remembered the times her parents always treated Ava much better than they treated her. At that time, she believed it was because they wanted to toughen her up because she was the first born.
She'd occasionally ask to see her own baby pictures when her parents stared at Ava's joyfully and they'd reluctantly reply, "We don't know where those pictures are Ariana. It's been a long time" and she'd go on to believe that truly her baby pictures were gone or somehow non-existent in the Sterling home.
But now it began to become clear to her. What if they didn't have her baby pictures because she wasn't their daughter to begin with? Because they weren't the parents that birthed her?.
The questions began to fill her head as she walked out of the hospital building and was heading towards her car. She felt her hairs stand on end, feeling like someone was watching her but she looked around and saw no one. Only cars parked around in the hospital's parking lot.
Suddenly, her feet became wobbly and everything began spinning. She felt her head throb and the next thing she felt was her body fall to the ground and then, darkness. Utter darkness.
The smell of colgne wafted into Ariana's nose indicating she was conscious again. She blinked a couple of times and felt something hard and firm around her. She opened her eyes finally to see a pair of green eyes staring down at her with an emotion she couldn't fathom.
Freaking out, she instantly threw a punch to the face where the eyes were. "Ouch" Azaiah groaned as he rubbed his cheeks which Ariana had just pushed.
She wriggled out of his arms and her back hit a hard surface, making her realize she was in a car.
His car.
"What the fuck Azaiah!" She said feeling her hand tremble for a second. Hurting from punching him and trembling from fear.
"I saw you fainted so I carried you" he said looking out the window. Ariana looked through the window and noticed they were still in the hospital grounds.
"You could have just taken me to them instead. We're at a hospital for heaven's sake you scared me!" She admitted but he didn't utter another word.
She felt her head hurt once again as the weary feeling began to overwhelm her.
She held her head and groaned in pain making him turn towards her.
He reached for her hand "You need to be checked".
"Oh now you know!" Ariana attempted pushing his hand away but fell into his embrace instead.
Her soft breathing fanning his face as she looked up at him.
She tried to break free but it was pointless. "You need to relax. It's going to be fine" he brushed her stray hairs to the side of her face before carrying her out of the car and into the hospital.
"It hurts so much" Ariana admitted in a low tone but Azaiah heard it and coaxed her with his words.
The male nurses quickly took Ariana from the man and took her into a private room. Ariana tried to explain how she felt to them and a doctor was quickly brought in.
On the doctor's arrival, Azaiah was asked to leave the room. Ariana's gaze rested on him and for some seconds, they maintained eye contact before he walked out.
Ariana was cautious of Azaiah after what Yvonne had told her about him. She had always felt the need to be careful around him since the moment they met at the club but somehow, she still wasn't terrified of him . But she found him strange as he always seemed to be around her.
